Biology - Reared from oak cynipid galls of the section Cerris; attacks galls of Chilaspis nitida [aj, some Neuroterus galls and also a gall midge, Janetia cerris (Kollar, 1850) (Diptera: Cecidomyiidae). Hosts recorded from Hungary - Neuroterus lanuginosus [a] and N. saliens [a]. Distribution - AT, DZ, FR (with Corsica), HU (new record) and IL. Saphonecrus undulatus (Mayr, 1872) - Synonyms - Sapholitus undulatus Mayr, 1872, Saphonecrus undulatus'. Dalla Torre et Kieffer 1910, Synergus apertus Giraud in Houard, 1911 (synonym in Pujade-Villar & Nieves-Aldrey 1990), Saphonecrus giraudi Pujade-Villar, 1985 (synonym in Pujade-Villar & Nieves-Aldrey 1990). Hosts recorded from Hungary - Aphelonyx cerricola [a], (*) Synophrus politus [bj. Distribution - AT, HU (new record) and RO. Synergus Hartig, 1840 The Synergus genus is closely related to Saphonecrus (Pujade-Villar & NievesAldrey 1990) as the 1st metasomal tergite is sulcate in both genera. In Synergus frontal carinae are usually present, the radial cell in the forewing is usually closed, with marginal vein indicated; antennae of females 14-, males 15-segmented. Twenty six species are known from the Western Palaearctic and 20 of them have been collected in Hungary. On the basis of the morphological peculiarities, Mayr (1872) subdivided the European Synergus species into two sections and subsequent researchers have followed this. Key to the Hungarian species of the genus Synergus Hartig 1. Metasomal terga 2+3 minutely punctate posteriorly, forming a band of variable width, at least 1/4 of fused tergites, and always reaching ventral edge of tergite (Figs 4A-D); Section I Mayr, 1872 2 Metasomal terga 2+3 without punctures posteriorly, or if present, than in a form of limited apical dorsal patch or indistinct narrow band not reaching ventral edge of tergite (Figs 4E-F); Section II Mayr, 1872 10 2. Median mesoscutal impression absent or very short and shallow, triangle, extended not more than to 1/8 of scutum length (Fig. 5 A); lateral frontal carinae weak, usually incomplete and indistinct near lateral ocelli (Fig. 6A) 3 Medial mesoscutal impression extended at least to half of scutum length (Figs 5B-C); lateral frontal carinae distinct and reaching lateral ocelli (Figs 6B-D) 5
