ROVARTANI KÖZLEMÉNYEK LXII 2001 pp. 275-281 New faunistic records of Empididae and Hybotidae (Diptera) from Hungary M Chvála and M. Földvári New faunistic records of Empididae and Hybotidae (Diptera) from Hungary — Seven species of Empis (Empididae) and five species of Platypalpus (Hybotidae) are recorded here as new for the Hungarian fauna. Seventeen species are proposed to be deleted from the Hungarian species list due to lack of voucher specimens (or misidentifications). Key words: Empis, Platypalpus, faunistics, new records, Hungary. INTRODUCTION The first data on Hungarian Empididae and Hybotidae have been published by Thalhammer (1900). These records are unreliable, because many of the localities mentioned in this book are outside the borders of present Hungary and nothing is available of his material. Most of the work on the Hungarian fauna has been done by the late Dr. Mihály Wéber (1961, 1963, 1965, 1966, 1969, 1972, 1975a, 19756, 1976, 1981a, 19816, 1983, 1987). These identifications were revised by the senior author in 1987 during a survey in the Hungarian Natural History Museum (HNHM), where all the below listed specimens are preserved (except for E. staegeri, in Department of Zoology, Charles University, Prague: CUP). This article is the outcome of the re-identification. The following faunistic results have not yet been published with detailed catching data. They have been discovered by the junior author while he was compiling the manuscript for the "Checklist of the Diptera of Hungary "'. Further studies are needed in the collections of the HNHM, since there are still a number of misidentifications and the undetermined material is growing. All data are listed as present on the labels and additional notes are appended where necessary.
