Dictionary of Insect Morphology LAJOS ZOMBORI and HENRIK STEINMANN In our modern era any tool which helps us in orientation is more than welcome. A dictionary is such a tool. The present, large-format volume is a highly elaborate, comprehensive sourcebook of the external and internal morphology of the insect body. The great merit of this dictionary lies in the fact that the majority of the terms currently employed appear in a single volume format. The book may be divided into two large sections. The first part comprises well over 8,000 English and Latin/Greek terms. It is quite evident that the name and expressions have been carefully selected and checked linguistically. The synonyms are also featured as independent entries; the arrow following these words refers the reader to the most commonly used scientific names with explanation(s). The short and compact interpretation of terms is the major advantage of this work, so its epistemological value is high. Thus, this explanatory dictionary is particularly suited for clarifying the best part of the insect morphological terms used in the technical literature. The second part includes 207 simple, at places even diagrammatically depicted figures to make the explanations even more clear. This book is meant for a wide public: for the layman just as well as for the specialist engaged either in the theoretical or in the applied field of insect morphology. Furthermore, this dictionary issuing from its nature is compatible is settling questions of orthography.
