L. Papp; Zaca hg. 24.VI.1982, 1 male, 1 female; Zempléni TK, Regéc: Ördög-v., 28-29.VI. 1999, 1 female, leg. L. Papp; Zirc: Szarvaskút, 28.VII.1974, 1 female, leg. Tóth. Comment: A very common species in different types of forests, distributed throughout Europe. All specimens were carefully checked against the recently described and morphologically very similar P. anderssoni Rotheray et McGovern, 1998, but no Hungarian specimen belongs to this latter species. Temnosira saltuum (Linnaeus, 1758) — Literature: Morge 1984: 245. - Material examined: BNP, Miskolc: Garadna-völgy, 26.V.1981, 3 males, leg. L. Papp; BNP, Miskolc, 15.VI.1982, 2 females, leg. Vály. Comment: This species is widely distributed throughout Europe in shady, cool forests with large stands of Umbelliferae. Most records are from mountainous regions, but few lowland records are known as well. T. saltuum was first mentioned from Hungary by Morge (1984), but without precise locality. It is not clear, whether Morge just copied the references of Thalhammer (1900) or Martinék (1977), who was not aware that Thalhammer's specimens originating from Ukraine and Slovakia, but not within the limits of present-day Hungary, or whether Morge saw true Hungarian specimens. Toxoneura basimaculata (Czerny, 1934) — Literature: Soós 1980: 56. - Material examined: Budapest, 18.VII.1901, 1 female, leg. Kertész. Comment: Based on present information, this species is known only from a few localities in Poland, Czech Republic, Austria and the single above-mentioned specimen from Hungary. The condition of the specimen is fair, with only the very base of both wings still present. Therefore, its identity cannot be definitely ascertained. However, Soós and Morge both added an unambiguous identification label. Toxoneura modesta (Meigen, 1830) — Literature: Thalhammer 1900: 61 (as Palloptera parallela Loew); Soós 1980: 57. - Material examined: Aranyosgadány: árnyékszék, 25.XII.1970, 1 female, leg. Papp; Budapest: Hármashatár h., 29.VIII.1981, 1 female, leg. Mihályi; Kőszeg, VIII. 1928, 1 female, leg. Szilády; Mátra hg, Gálya, 13.VIII.1978, 1 female, leg. Mihályi; Mátra hg., Mátraszentimre, 7.VÍII.1981, 1 female, leg. Mihályi; Mátra hg., Piszkéstető, 11.VII. 1978, 1 female, leg. Mihályi. Comment: Because of its association with a wide range of thistles (Cirsium, Carlina), T. modesta is a very widespread and common species all over Europe up to 2000 m altitude. It is somewhat surprising that only a few specimens have ever been collected in Hungary. Toxoneura trimacula (Meigen, 1826) — Material examined: Börzsöny hg., Verőce: Magyarkút, 3.VIII.1978, 1 male, leg. L. Papp; Csopak, Balaton part, 30.VII.1975, 1 male, leg. Tóth; Zirc: Szarvaskút, 28.VIL1974, 1 female, leg. Tóth. Comment: New for Hungary. The finding of this species in Hungary was expected, as it had been known from almost all European countries. In Switzerland it may be regularly found along edges of forests, in open forests and even in grassland from the lowlands to 2000 m altitude. It is quite surprising that it seems to be a rare species in Hungary, though its presumed host plants, some Umbelliferae, are very widespread.
