FOLIA ENTOMOLOGICA HUNGARICA Instruction to authors Submission of a paper implies that it has not been published previously, that is not under consideration for publication elsewhere, and that if accepted for the Folia Entomologica Hungarica, the authors will transfer copyright to the Hungarian Entomological Society/the Hungarian Natural History Museum as is customary. Articles and illustrations become the property of the HES/HNHM. The manuscript and two copies (also showing details of illustration) should be submitted to Dr. Sándor Mahunka, Department of Zoology, Hungarian Natural History Museum, H-1088 Budapest, Baross u. 13. Hungary. Entire manuscripts must be submitted on floppy disk. In the case of multiple authors, the corresponding author should be indicated. Series of numbered papers will not be considered. Manuscripts must be typewritten double-spaced and written in English or German. English is strongly recommended. Manuscripts may be submitted as articles or short communications. Footnotes should be avoided or minimised, and italics should not be used for emphasis. A running head of not more than 30 letters should be supplied. The manuscript should contain the following information: Title should be followed by the name and full address of the author(s). Abstract should be a brief summary of the contents and conclusions of the paper, and should not be longer than 200 words and should not contain references and must be written in passive form. Key words should not be more than ten key word entries. The Introduction should contain a brief summary of the relevant literature and the reasons for doing the work. Sufficient information should be given in the Material and Methods section to permit reproduction of the experimental or field work. Results should be presented concisely. Only in exceptional cases will it be permissible to present the same set of results in both table and a figure. The results section should not be used for discussion. Discussion should be separate from the results section and should deal with the significance of the results and their relationship to the object of the work (and, this is the place of the identification key in taxonomic revisions). Acknowledgements (at most in 10 lines). References should be listed in alphabetical order under the first author's name and should refer only to publications cited in the text. For examples of the format to be used for articles from journals, books and articles from non-serial collective publications, a recent volume of Folia Entomologica Hungarica should be consulted. Literature citations should be in chronological order as follows: Bernini et al. 1995; Balogh 1943, 1983; Acpöck and Aspöck 1965. If papers by the same author(s) in the same year are cited, they should be distinguished by the letters, a, b, c, etc., e.g. Meinander (1972a). Where there are more than two authors, only the first should be named, followed by et al. The International System of Units should be used; other units may be given in parentheses when they first appear in the text. All necessary illustrations should accompany the manuscript, but should not be inserted in the text. All photographs, graphs and diagrams should be numbered consecutively in Arabic numerals in the order in which they are referred to in the text. Scales must be indicated on micrographs, not by magnifications in the legends. Figure size must not exceed 24 x 30 cm. On the back of each illustration should be indicated the author's name, the figure number (in Arabic numerals), and the top of the illustration, where it is not clear. Legends to figures should be typed on a separate sheet. They should give sufficient data to make the illustration comprehensible without reference to the text. Tables and appendices should be constructed so as to be intelligible without reference to the text, numbered in Arabic numerals and typed on separate sheets. Units of measure should always be indicated clearly (metric units are preferred). All tables and figures must be referred to in the text. Proofs will be sent to the authors only once. Please note that authors are urged to check their proofs carefully before return, since late correction cannot be guaranteed for inclusion in the printed journal. Corrections should be limited to typographical errors. The costs of any other changes, involving time-consuming and expensive work, will be charged to author(s). If absolutely necessary, additions may be made at the end of the paper in a "Note added in Proof". The editors reserve the right to publish manuscripts in any order they think fit (normally chronological). Fifty reprints free of charge will be sent to the first author; extra copies of the issue (at a specially reduced rate) may be ordered on the form which will accompany the proofs.
