flies were collected by means of a sampling net on grazing cattle and on blooming plants; by hand in the car; by means of red, black and blue Malaise traps (Donja Glavina); on the windows of gas-stations along the Adriatic main road. Specimens setting on the car were collected by means of a sampling net. The collected specimens were determined according to the keys of: Chvála et al. (1972) and Majer (1987). Names of species were written according to the catalogue Chvála (1988). RESULTS In 1995, 1996 and 1997 altogether 6121 specimens were collected yielding 48 species (Table 2). Literature references and the review of the J. Mikuska collection, modifield these numbers to 7990 62 respectively (Tables 1, 2). These species were further classified in 9 genera (Table 3). The most populous genus is Tabanus with 26 species, followed by Hybomitra with 12 species, Haematopota with 7 species, Atylotus with 5 species, Chrysops with 4 species, Dasyrhamphis with 3 species, Therioplectes and Philipomyia with 2 species, and Heptatoma with 1 species (Table 3).
