Abbreviations used in text are: EL = eye length, IATS = inner apical tibial spur, ICD = inter-cenchri distance, IDMO = interocular distance at level of median ocellus, ITD = inter tegular distance, LID = lower interocular distance, MB = metabasitarsus, OATS = outer apical tibial spur, OCL = ocello-occipital line, OOL = oculo-ocellar line, POL = postocellar line. Nesoselandria emarginata sp. n. (Figs 2, 6, 9, 12, 15, 23) Female — Colour: body black, golden yellow are: dorsal and posterolateral margins of pronotum, tegula, legs except infuscated apical 4 joints of hind four legs. Wings hyaline, venation including costa, subcosta and stigma fuscous. Structure: Average length 5.5 mm. Antenna filiform, 1.9 x head width, scape and pedicel equal, segments 3 and 4 as 5:4. Clypeus (Fig. 2) emarginate, labrum (Fig. 2) as long as broad with rounded anterior margin, malar space linear. LID:IDMO:EL = 1:1.2:1.4, POL:OCL = 1:0.8:0.9. Supraantennal pits deep, rounded. Frontal area flat, above level of eyes, median fovea in form of minute, shallow pit above supraclypeal area; postocellar furrow absent, inter- and circumocellar furrows fine; lateral furrows distinct, diverging posteriorly and ending abruptly well before hypothetical hind margin of head; postocellar area convex, broader than long as 2:1, head narrowing behind eyes. Mesoscutellum subconvex, appendage ecarinate, ICDTTD = 1:6, epicnemium separated from mesopleuron by distinct furrow. Tarsal claw (Fig. 6) with subapical tooth shorter than apical one, basal lobe distinct; metabasitarsus longer than following 3 joints combined as 4:3, IATS:MB:OATS = 1:2.4:0.8. Ovipositor sheath as in Fig. 9 (lateral view) and in Fig. 12 (dorsal view). Lacet (Fig. 15) having 4 serrulae. Sculpture: Body impunctate, shining. Pubescence: Golden, 0.4 x scape length. Male — Length 5 mm. Similar to female. Genitalia: Penis valve (Fig. 23), gonoforceps (Fig. 21). Material examined — Holotype: Female, Uttar Pradesh, Kalbury, 2400 m, 28.6.1991, coll. V. Vasu. Paratypes: Uttar Pradesh, Mandai, 2300 m, 1 female, 15.6.1983, coll. M. S. Saini (deposited in the HNHM); Himachal Pradesh, Kalatop, 2400 m, 1 female, 2.8.1982, coll. M. S. Saini; Tamil Nadu, Anamalia Hills, 3500 m, 1 male, 1968, coll. P. S. Nathan, Cinchona sp. Distribution — India: Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Tamil Nadu. Discussion — N. emarginata is a widely distributed species covering North-west Himalaya and South Indian hills at the same time. There are only limited number of species which cover such a wide range. This species was collected from ferns growing along road sides and shallow broad gorges. On the basis of same distinguishing characters such as: legs with some broad pale yellow markings, abdomen entirely black, clypeus emarginate, inter- and circumocellar furrows fine, postocellar area broader than long as 2:1, and femora entirely yellow, N. emarginata remains far apart from all the Oriental species of this genus. Etymology — The species name pertains to the emarginate incision of clypeus.
