Discussion — On the basis of some apparent key characters N. maculipodus comes close to N. trifoveatus (Cameron). However, both can be easily distinguished from each other as follows: postocellar area broader than long as 4:3 (as broad as long in trifoveatus); antennái segments 3 and 4 as 5:4 (as 3:2 in trifoveatus); legs black with broad whitish markings (legs whitish except black apices of tibiae and following tarsi entirely in trifoveatus), and pubescence silvery (black in trifoveatus). In habit, distribution and availability this species resembles N. maculatus. Its activity during monsoon days when it rains regularly and very heavily remains to be recorded from ferns. Etymology — Species is named after its spotted legs. Key to the Indian species of Genus Neostromboceros Rohwer 1. Abdomen entirely black 2. Abdomen with some tergites entirely whitish to fulvous 12. 2. Both clypeus and labrum brownish to black 3. At least either of these partly or entirely whitish 7. 3. Head punctate 4. Head impunctate 5. 4. Frontal area micropunctate and smooth, pit above supraclypeal area shallow or absent, pit anterior to median ocellus shallow, lateral furrows ending well before hypothetical hind margin of head, posterior supraantennal pit shallow but larger than anterior one, protrochanter whitish, metatrochanter black N. micropunctatus sp. n. Frontal area macropunctate and rugose, pit above supraclypeal area distinct, pit anterior to median ocellus deep, lateral furrows ending just before hypothetical hind margin of head, posterior supraantennal pit deep and of size of anterior one, protrochanter black, metatrochanter whitish N. macropunctatus_sp. n. 5. Parapterum and pronotum entirely black 6. Parapterum and pronotal margin whitish; (basal 2/3 of metatibia whitish, metabasitarsus and following joints black, antennái segments 3 and 4 as 6:5; malar space 0.5 x diameter of median ocellus; interocellar furrow fine; postocellar area broader than long as 3:2 and lateral furrows excurved) N. maculatus sp. n. 6. Postocellar area as long as broad, legs whitish except black apices of tibiae and following tarsi entirely, pubescence black; antennái segments 3 and 4 as 3:2.. N. trifoveatus Cameron, 1902 Postocellar area broader than long as 4:3, legs black with broad whitish marking, pubescence silvery; antennái segments 3 and 4 as 5:4 N. maculipodus sp. n. 7. Frontal area smooth and shining or with only hardly conspicuous setiguous punctures 8. Frontal area coarsely rugose with subopaque lustre; (head and thorax entirely black, lateral furrows of the postocellar area deep sharp, hardly diminishing backwards, and abruptly ending a little more than half-way from the hind margin of the head; both very short, obliquely diverging, indistinct, and sometimes probably altogether wanting, furrows and a similar carina between them directed forward from the middle ocellus) N. rothneyi (Cameron, 1888)
