ZOOGEOGRAPHIC CONSIDERATIONS With the data presented here, and considering earlier reports, the species number of Newsteadia in the Oriental and Palaearctic Regions has increased to 8. One of these species (N.floccosa) is distributed only in the Palaearctic Region, while another one (N. kanayana) in the Palaearctic and Oriental Regions. In the Oriental Region most of the species (4) were found in India and Nepal (Fig. 7). N. kanayana has the widest distribution, however, the presence of this species in Vietnam needs further clarification. With the new species added to the world list, the total number of the recent species has increased to 31. A world wide zoogeographical analysis would be possible later, because further new species are under description from the Ethiopian Region (Miller and Kozár, in preparation), and from the Australian, Pacific, Nearctic and Neotropical Regions (Kozár and Konczné Benedicty 1999Ű, b). Fig. 7. The distribution of the Newsteadia species in the Palaearctic and Oriental Regions (for N. floccosa this datum is the easternmost distribution record in the Palaearctic Region) Acknowledgements — The authors would like to thank the OTKA (Hungarian Scientific Research Fund) for financial support (Grant No. T 022005 and 025796) and especially Dr. Sándor Mahunka (Hungarian Natural History Museum, Budapest), who made this material in this Collection of Arachnida available for study. Thanks for kind help of Dr. Thomas Pape, Department Entomology, Swedish Museum of Natural History, Stockholm, for information about the De Geer collection. Thanks also due to Dr. Ferenc Samu for the English corrections.
