lowing localities: 9. Rudabányácska (village) and its surrounding (1986), 10. Füzér (village) and Nagy-Milic (mountain) (1987), 11. Kemence-patak (brook) and Vajda-völgy (valley) (1988), 12. Ósva-patak völgye (brook valley) (1989), 13. Gyertyán-kút-rét (meadow) (1986), 14. Ördög-völgy (valley) (1996), 15-16. Káposztás-bérc (peak), Haragistya (karstic area) (1991-1992), 17. Alsó-hegy (hill) (1993), 18-19. Mogyorósbérc (peak), Haragistya (1994-1995), 20. Hosszú-völgy (valley) (1986), 21-23. Ménesvölgy (valley) (1986 and 1995-1996). Similarity of the carabid species composition of the Beregi-síkság, the Aggtelekikarszt and the Zempléni-hegység was calculated by Jaccard similarity, and the Matusita similarity was used for abundance data. The similarity structure was displayed by nonmetric multidimensional scaling (Gordon 1981). During the calculations we have used the NuCoSA package (Tóthmérész 1993). RESULTS • During the research on the Beregi-síkság 5092 individuals belonging to 54 species were found and identified (Table 1). On the Hungarian side 24 while on the Ukrainian side 50 species were collected. Appendix (Table 2) contains the data matrix (30260 individuals belonging to 97 species) due to which we studied the biogeographical relations of the carabid fauna of the Beregi-síkság. Carabid communities of the Beregi-síkság were similar to each other in composition, although further sub-groups can be recognized (e.g., 1^1, 5, 6-7 and 8). Both the carabid fauna of the Aggteleki-karszt and the Zempléni-hegység were different from those above (Fig. 2). The ordination based on the abundances produced a very similar structure than that of the species composition. Table 1. Numbers of individuals of the carabid species caught in the studied forests.
