Figs 1-2. Sawsheath of Dolerus samarkandicus sp. n. (1) and D. rufogeniculatus Zhelochovtsev (2) in lateral view The new species runs to Dolerus rufogeniculatus Zhelochovtsev according to Benson's key (1967). However, when comparing the new species with the original paper of Zhelochovtsev (1924), it has nothing to do with Dolerus rufogeniculatus Zhelochovtsev, on the other hand, D. humeralis Benson is identical with D. rufogeniculatus Zhelochovtsev and it seems to be a synonym of D. rufogeniculatus Zhelochovtsev. Consequently, D. humeralis Benson is a misinterpretation of D. rufogeniculatus Zhelochovtsev. In order to prove this statement let us see the original description of Dolerus rufogeniculatus Zhelochovtsev, D. rufogeniculatus sensu Benson and that of D. humeralis Benson. Hinterleib quergestrichelt, 1. Segment fast ganz glatt;..." Dolerus rufogeniculatus sensu Benson, 1967: "Middle femur red only at extreme apex. Basal abdominal tergite with well developed coriaceous surface sculpture medially." Dolerus humeralis Benson, 1967: "Middle femur with apical half red. Tergites with the usual transverse alutaceous sculpture obsolete on the 1st segment..." I examined a series of Dolerus rufogeniculatus Zhelochovtsev identified by the author himself and learnt, that the original description of D. rufogeniculatus Zhelochovtsev is right, and D. rufogeniculatus sensu Benson is completely different from D. rufogeniculatus Zhelochovtsev. Dolerus humeralis Benson is a synonym of D. rufogeniculatus Zhelochovtsev, after Benson's description. Dolerus samarkandicus sp. n. is a valid name of D. rufogeniculatus sensu Benson. antenna length of costa/length of antenna apex of middle femur length of sawsheath length/height of sawsheath apical setae of sawsheath 1st abdominal tergite Dolerus rufogeniculatus long 1.1 Dolerus samarkandicus sp. n. short 1.45 1/2 yellow 1/6 yellow long short 1.2 (Fig. 2) 0.8 (Fig. 1) straight or slightly curved (Fig. 4) strongly curved inward (Fig. 3) smooth and shining coarsely sculptured
