S. Mahunka szerk.: Folia Entomologica Hungarica 57. (Budapest, 1996)

It is well distinguished from all heretofore related species by the reduced number of notogastral setae (less than ten pairs). This feature is unique in this genus. Etymology: The new species is dedicated to my supervisor Dr. J. G. Palacios-Vargas for his continuous help in my work, and his contributions to the oribatid knowledge in Mexico. Note: This species was previously cited by Norton and Palacios-Vargas (1987) from Popocatepetl Volcano, who gave information on its ecology and consider it an accessory member of the epiphytic fauna. The first record of this species in "Los Dinamós" (Mexico City) was given by Ríos and Villavicencio (1994), in a preliminary study about microarthropods associated with mosses. Acknowledgements — I wish to express my gratitude to Dr. José G. Palacios-Vargas (Facultad de Ciencias, UNAM) for his help in every moment; to Dr. Sándor Mahunka (Natural History Museum, Budapest) for the revision of the text and the figures, and his interest in my work; to Luise Mahunka (Natural History Museum, Budapest) for the help in the elaboration of the figures; to M. en C. Isabel Sanchez and M. en C. Arturo Moreno (Instituto Politécnico Nacional, Mexico) for borrowing me some material from Popocatepetl Volcano; and Biol. Rogelio Villavicencio (Facultad de Ciencias, UNAM) for his help in the field work. REFERENCES Agustin-Serrano, S. y Palacios-Vargas, J. G.
