to different genera of the tribe "Tachyini". It seems preferable to consider Tachys as a synonym of Bembidion, thus Carabus quadriguttatus has been designated as the type. Tachys Schönherr, 1806 becomes a junior objective synonym of Bembidion Latreille, 1802, while Tachys of authors takes the name Tachyura Motschulsky, 1862. The tribal name Tachyini (Tachyaires Motschulsky, 1862, based on Tachys of Stephens or Dejean not Schönherr), because it has an erroneously determined type genus, is not available; it should be replaced by Lymnastini (Limnastini Jeannel, 1937, based on Lymnastis Motschulsky, 1862). It has generally been supposed that the genus Platynus Germar, 1817 (and its nominotypical subgenus) has Carabus scrobiculatus Fabricius, 1801 as the type species. However, Platynus included originally the only species Carabus angusticollis Fabricius, 1801 (a junior subjective synonym of C. junceus Scopoli, 1763). Consequently, by the monotypy, this is the type species of the genus and its nominotypical subgenus. As there are no available synonyms for the subgenus erroneously called as Platynus (represented by Carabus scrobiculatus), therefore, a new name is proposed to nominate it. Platynomenus subgen. n. Type species: Carabus scrobiculatus Fabricius, 1801 (present designation) — Head constricted behind eyes. Antennae with fine and dense pubescence on segments IV-XI only; segments I —111 (except for a few apical tentorial setae) glabrous. Pronotum subcordiform, with a deep basal impression at both sides; lateral margins distinctly sinuate before posterior angles; posterior angles blunt, obtuse-angled. Humerus broadly rounded, humeral callus indistinct; wings rudimentary. Tarsal segments without a median longitudinal furrow on dorsal side. The classification of the tribe Harpalini proposed in the present work is unique in some features. It is thought to be necessary to provide a key to the determination of the genera and subgenera represented with species in Hungary. 1 (8) Temple with fine punctuation and fine pubescence behind eye. Pronotal disk punctuated. 2 (7) Tarsal segments (at least at apical part) with fine punctuation and fine pubescence on dorsal side. Head with punctuation and fine pubescence. 3 (4) Fine elytral pubescence distinct, consisting of relatively long, reclinate hairs genus: Cephalophonus Ganglbauer, 1892 4 (3) Fine elytral pubescence indistinct, consisting of relatively short, erect hairs genus: Metophonus Bedel, 1897 5 (6) Lateral margins of pronotum convex, rectilinear or (at most) barely, indistinctly sinuate before posterior angles. Posterior pronotal angles obtuse-angled, more or less rounded subgenus: Hesperophonus Antoine, 1959 6 (5) Lateral margins of pronotum distinctly sinuate before posterior angles. Posterior pronotal angles about right-angled, obtusely pointed subgenus: Metophonus Bedel, 1897
