S. Mahunka szerk.: Folia Entomologica Hungarica 57. (Budapest, 1996)
Lateral part of prodorsum: Pedotecta I large, pedotecta II —III reduced. Acetabulum of leg IV located far from that of leg III (Fig. 20), discidium well observable. Apodemes IV and a minitectum run from the redundant genital opening posteriorly, arching to leg IV. Coxisternal region: This region modified, the mentioned minitectum and apodemes directed posteriorly, well arched, behind the genital aperture (Fig. 19). Sternal apodeme dilate medially in a clavate structure. Epimeres I wide, epimeres II narrow and epimeres III—IV very wide. A well observable lateral line on epimere I framing this part. All epimeral setae short and simple. Anogentital region: Genital opening comparatively small, located between the arching apodemes. Anogenital setal formula: 4-1-2-3. All setae short. Lyrifissures iad in inverse apoanal position. Legs: All segments of legs long and thin. Tibia of leg I without tubercle for the solenidia. Setae of trochanter, femur and tibia of leg IV very short. Legs setal formulae: I: 1-5-2+1^1+2-20+2-1 (Fig. 21), IV: 1-2-2-3+1-10-1 (Fig. 22) Material examined: Holotype (HO-1 535-1996): Malagasy Republic. Central E Madagascar. Degraded montane rain forest on Mt. Ambatokirijy at the S edge of Andasibe (Perinet) Forest Reserve, at 950-1000 m alt. 18°57'15"S, 48°26'20"E, 3. Oct. 1994. Leg. Dr. T. Pócs. Holotype deposited in HNHM. Remarks: The combination of features in this species also poses the question whether the generally considered characteristics of the genera within the family Oppiidae have so far been correctly evaluated. The new species is an ally of a recently described species: Leptoppia procera Mahunka, 1996 from Madagascar. However, it differs from it in the undivided rostrum, in the number of genital setae (!), and in the presence of the discidium. On these bases, it should be better be considered as a new genus, but great similarity in habitus opposes such a decision. So for the time being I decline erecting a new genus. Etymology: Named after the great Hungarian baron, the regent of Madagascar. Oripoda auriculata sp. n. Measurements — Length of body: 454 pm, width of body: 225 pm. Integument: Dark, brown species. The whole body surface, the mentum and the rutellum, the genital and anal plates and some joints of legs well foveolate. The foveolae of different sizes. Prodorsum: Rostral apex widely rounded. Lamellae long, lamellar cusp straight. Very weak prelamellae observable, rostral setae arising on its distal end. Both pairs of these setae setiform, bent inwards, unilaterally sparsely spiculate. Interlamellar setae much shorter, blunt at tip and finely pilose. Sensillus covered by the protruding pteromorpha, only a part of it distal end visible. Lateral part of the prodorsum also foveolate, the foveolae gradually smaller basally than anteriorly (Fig. 23). Notogaster: Dorsosejugal suture concave, slightly undulate. Large, auriculate pteromorphae present (Fig. 23). Ten pairs of long, curved notogastral setae present. Lyrifissures iad well observable in front of the insertion of setae Ip. I was not able to see the sacculi. Lateral part of prodorsum: Pedotecta 1 large, with deep hollow in its dorsal margin (Fig. 25).
