FOLIA ENTOMOLOGICA HUNGARICA ROVARTANI KÖZLEMÉNYEK LI 1990 p. 117-121 Two Aleuropteryx species from Tanzania (Planipennia: Coniopterygidae) By Gy. SZIRÁKI (Received February 9,1990) ABSTRACT: Two new Aleuropteryx species - A. cruciata sp.n. and A. teleki sp.n. - are described from Tanzania. These species are the first representatives of the genus in East Africa. In 1988 a Hungarian scientific expedition was organized to East Africa on the occasion of centenary of Africa-expedition carried out by Sámuel Teleki and Ludwig von Höhnel (Vojnits, 1990). In the Neuroptera material collected by this expedition I have found two male Aleuropteryx specimens, which belong to two different, hitherto undescribed species. These new species are the first two representatives of the Aleuropteryx genus in East Africa. Aleuropteryx cruciata sp.n. (Figs 1-5) Holotype: male,- "3. Feb. 1988. Tanzania, Lake Natron, 3 km from the south end of the lake, leg. A. Vojnits" - deposited in the collection of the Hungarian Natural History Museum, Budapest. Head dark brown, eyes black. Antennae 22-segmented, brown. Scape about one and a half times as long as pedicel, pedicel about twice as long as the first flagellar segment. The spine on pedicel is subapical . Thorax dorsally almost black, otherwise dark brown. The legs are brown. Length of fore wing 1.5 mm, vein CU2 forked. Membrane dark brownish gray with a characteristic hyaline pattern, and with a darker margin along the edge (Fig. 1). Hyaline spots are at the end of veins, at the cross-vein-like basal part of Sc2, at the cross-veins between R^ - R2+3 , R s - M and M - Cu^, at the cross-vein-like basal part of Rs and of R4-1-5, and hyaline lines are before M at right angles to cross veins and along the CU2 . Length of the hind wing 1.3 mm, membrane almost hyaline. Abdomen light brown. Male internal genitalia: as Figs 2-5. As regards the male genitalia, in this paper the terminology of Meinander (1972 )is followed. Ninth sternite has two pair of lateral appendages and posteriorly one rather broad process. Between the dorso-lateral and ventro-lateral appendages there is a thin chitin membrane. Dorso-lateral appendages more or less parallel with each other. Ventro-lateral appendages curved inwards. Distal process of ninth sternite caudally curved upwards and dorsally ends in a transverse plate with two pointed tips. The dorsal incision of transverse plate is deep. Before the transverse plate there is another chitinised plate, which is connected to the dorso-lateral appendage with a narrow band. Penis caudally pointed, wing-like appendages rounded, basal appendage is broad. Behind the caudal tip of penis there is a little dorsal crest.
