Colour of body very variable brownish yellow with at most little dark pattern (nominate form) or with more or less brown, dark brown to blackish brown pattern (var. leviventris Wesmael, 1835k otf: 3.5-6 mm. - Palaearctic Region M. rubens (Nees, 1812) Cotesia eliniae sp. n. (Figs 17-20) Description of the holotype Body 2. 8-3. 1 mm long. Head in dorsal view twice as broad as long, eye as long as temple, latter rounded. Eye in lateral view twice as high as wide, temple and eye of equal width at the medial line of eye, temple ventrally slightly narrowing. Ocelli forming a low triangle, hind imaginary tangent to fore ocellus touching anteriorly hind pair of ocelli, distance between fore and a hind ocelli just longer than diameter of an ocellus, POL twice as long as distance indicated previously, POL somewhat longer than OOL. Face 1. 5 times as wide below (above clypeus) as high medially, inner margin of eyes somewhat converging ventrally. Clypeus rectangle in form, twice wider below than high medially. Malar space somewhat longer than base of mandible. Head smooth, subshiny to shiny, face uneven, occiput rugulose. Antenna somewhat shorter than body. Flagellum slightly attenuating distally, first flagellar joint 2.66 times and penultimate joint 1.6 times as long as broad. Mesosoma in lateral view 1. 33 times as long as high, in dorsal view as broad between tegulae as breadth of head. Mesonotum subshiny and medium-sized punctate, interspaces mostly shorter than diameter of punctures. Course of notaulix indicated by dense rugosity. Prescutellar furrow with eight crenulae. Scutellum with disperse punctures, interspaces unevensu bru gu lose. Propodeum scrobiculate, with a weak medio-longitudinal keel. Mesopleuron rugulose, posteriorly with a polished field. Legs usual in form and size. Hind femur 3. 6 times as long as broad. Outer side of hind coxa ru gu lose-su bru gu lose. Hind tarsus somewhat longer than hind tibia; pair of spurs of hind tibia (Fig. 17) unequal in length, inner spur distinctly and outer spur somewhat longer than half basitarsus. Fore wing as long as body. Pterostigma (Fig. 18) unusually narrow, three times as long as wide and issuing radial vein conspicuously distally from its middle. Metacarp as long as length of pterostigma and three times as long as distance between its distal end and tip of radial vein, rl somewhat shorter than width of pterostigma, directed to outward or oblique to fore margin of pterostigma; rl and cuqul of equal length. Discoidal cell 1. 35 times wider than high, d2 1.5 times as long as dl. Nervellus clearly incurved (Fig. 19). Metasoma about as long as mesosoma. First tergite (Fig. 20) just broader before its hind end than long medially, distinctly broadening posteriorly. Second tergite transverse, 2. 5 times as wide behind as long medially. Third tergite as long as second tergite. Tergites 1-2 rugose with scrobiculate elements, third tergite antero-posteriorly rugo-rugulose to subrugulose, further tergites polished. Hypopygium somewhat deformed (together with hind half of metasoma), thus its outline invisible. Ovipositor sheath in lateral view as long as hind basitarsus. Body black. Antenna black, flagellum below faintly brownish. Palpi brown. Tegula black. Legs black; apical fourth of fore femur, apex of middle femur and base of tibiae 1-2 yellowish, otherwise tibiae 1-2 blackish. Hind tibia yellowish, distally blackish; tarsi yellowish, hind tarsus above darkening. Wings subhyaline, pterostigma brownish with small and faint pale basal spot (parastigma with similar colour), veins brownish to light brownish. Description of the female paratypes (3 £ç): Similar to the holotype. Body 2.9-3 mm long. Head in dorsal view 1. 8-1. 9 times as broad as long. First flagellar joint 2.4-2.5 times, Figs 17-21.
