Remarks: Lagria amethystina is similar to L. sapphirina but the elytra are more broadly oval (slenderer in sapphirina) , always purplish violet (bluish or greenish in sapphi rina) and pronotum is never darkling (often so in sapphirina) . Lagria sapphirina sp. n. (Figs 4, 9) Head, pronotum, scutellum, legs and antennae pale reddish brown; pronotum most often (and head sometimes) darker, with greenish tinge; last antennái segment somewhat darker; elytra greenish blue (reddish brown in immature specimens); ventral surface darker reddish brown. Length: 7.2-9.0 mm. 8. Head impressed between eyes; with 2 blunt protuberances behind impression; pro tuberances and impression nearly smooth; otherwise, head sparsely punctate; with some long, erect hairs; EI= 13: 8; length ratios of antennái segments: 9: 4: 10: 10: 6: 8: 8: 7: 7: 6: 30; no transversal or modified segments; segment I shorter than half of distance between antennái sockets. Pronotum nearly as long as broad or slightly transverse; widest just anterior to the middle; sides subparallel to weakly arched; punctation coarse and dense, somewhat rugose posteriorly; surface with 2 or 4 weak impressions; pubescence rather long, sparse, erect. Elytra rather elongate oval, moderately convex; sides nearly straight from humerus to broadest point; punctation coarse, dense; interspaces a little plicate; pubescence rather short, dense, erect to suberect. Sterna without modifications. Legs typical, with sparse, rather short pubescence; tibiae unarmed. Aedeagus: Fig. 9. Habitus: Fig. 4. g. Larger on the average; EI= 14: 12; length ratios of antennái segments VIII to XI: 8:8:7:22; impression between eyes weaker, but protuberances somewhat more prominent; pronotum distinctly transverse.
