FOLIA ENTOMOLOGIC A HUNGARICA ROVARTANI KÖZLEMÉNYEK XLVIII 1987 p. 91-95 New and little known scale-insect species from Moldavia (USSR) (Homoptera: Coccoidea)* By F. KOZÁR and V. G. OSTAFICHUK (Received January 10, 1987) Abstract: New and little known scale-insect species from Moldavia (USSR) (Homoptera: Coccoidea) . - Collections of scale Insects in Moldavia (SW USSR) resulted 48 species. Among them three species Cerococcus cycliger Goux, 1932, Kermes ilicis (Linnaeus, 1758) and Lepidosaphes tiliae Saveseu, 1957 proved to be new for the USSR and 31 new to the fauna of Moldavia. The scale-insect fauna of Moldavia is inadequately known. There has not yet been any comprehensive work published until now. One may find only poor information about the scale-insects of Moldavia in the publications of GOANCA et at. (1974) and VESeSHAGIN (1983). On the basis of these references only 23 scale-insect species have been recorded from Moldavia so far. Our collections were made in three occasions, two in 1985 and one in 1986. The dry material and the majority of slides are deposited in the collection of the Research Institute for Plant Protection, Hungarian Academy of Sciences (Budapest), some slides in the Zoological Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (Leningrad), and some dry material in the Institute of Zoology, Academy of Sciences of the Moldavian SSR. Species new for the Moldavian fauna are marked with x and the species new for the fauna of the USSR with +. The level of Infestation is marked as F (on a scale of 0 to 4) (KOZÄR et al. 1979). The identification numbers referring to the collection of the first author are given in parantheses. ORTHEZIIDAE 1. x Newsteadia floccosa (De Geer, 1778) - In litter, 16. 07. 1986, Kodry, female and first instar larvae, F=l (2943). 2. Orthezia urticae (Linnaeus, 1758) - Earlier it was reported from Moldavia (VERESHAGIN 1983). We collected it on Achillea sp., 15. 07. 1986, Lapusna, females, first instar larvae. F=l (2923); Achillea sp., 16. 07. 1986, Kodry, females, first instar larvae, F=3 (2942); Achillea millefolium, 18. 07. 1986, Magdatsesty, female, larvae, F=l (2965); Achillea sp., 17. 07. 1986, Trebuzheny, dead females, F=l (2955); Teucrium sp., 15. 07. 1986, Bardar, females, first instar larvae, F=l (2925). PSEUDOCOCCIDAE 3. x Atrococcus achilleae (Kiritchenko, 1936) - Cytisus sp., on the roots, 17. 07. 1986, Goyan, dead females, F=l (2952). * The work was completed on the base of scientific agreement between the Hungarian and the Moldavian Academies of Sciences.
