BÁLINT (Received December 10, 1984) Abstract: The present paper contains records of 27 Australian Rhopalocera collected by Mr. George HANGAY, Éva HERCZEG and Dr. András VOJNITS, with some information on the distribution of the species. Mr. George HANGAY from the Australian Museum and Dr. András VOJNITS from the Hungarian Natural History Museum (later with his wife Éva HERCZEG) made three expeditions at the end of 1980 and at the beginning of 1981 on an agreement between the Hungarian Natural History Museum and the Australian Museum. After the expeditions Dr. VOJNITS made further personal collecting trips in the sourroundings of Sydney, primarily to the North and to some small islands. They collected many animals and plants on the East-coast of Australia, among them butterflies and moths. The smallest part of the Lepidoptera material consits of butterflies. This work lists the collected butterflies and some other species which do not belong to the materials of the HANGAY-VOJNITS' s expeditions, but are deposited in the Lepidoptera collection of Hungarian Natural History Museum, donated by B. MOLNÁR and M. TÓTH. The following families are represented in the collected material: 1 species Papilionidae, 7 species Pieridae, 3 species Danaidae, 4 species Nymphalidae, 4 species Satyridae, 6 species Lycaenidae and 2 species Hesperiidae. Among the 27 species five are widely distributed, migrant species: Catopsilia pomona Fabricius, Catopsilia scylla Linnaeus, Anaphaeis java Sparrm., Lampides boeticus Linnaeus, Vanessa cardui Linnaeus and a local butterfly - Oreixenica orichora Meyrick - wich occurs at some places in the alpine zone of the Australian mountains. Papilionidae Eurycus cressida Fabricius, 1775 - It is a common species from Cape York to the Richmond River but rare farther South.
