pale yellow. Metasoma ochreous; ochre or pale brown, laterally narrowly black; Tg entirely black or apical margin with sparse admixture of whitish hairs; T. basally black with variable intermixture of whitish hairs, sometimes predominantly whitish; apically whitish; Tg medially black, gradually whitish laterally; metasomal venter entirely pale yellowish. Legs pale yellow; femora intermixed with black hairs; tibiae and tarsi black. (Male) Head yellowish; vertex and frons laterally with sparse admixture of black hairs;clypeus intermixed with black hairs. Mesosoma ochreous, virtually without black hairs; pleura below and venter pale ochre. Metasoma T 1-2 ochreous yellow; T 2 laterally with a few to narrowly patched black hairs; Tg basally predominantly black with variable admixture of whitish hairs, paler hairs gradually increasing apically; in one specimen apical half virtually whitish except median black area; in another darker area wider, lateroapically exhibiting a pair of whitish patches; T^_ 5 basally black, admixed with sparse whitish hairs, apically yellowish white, with or without sparse admixture of black hairs, in one specimen medially with considerable admixture of black hairs; Tg entirely or predominantly black, lateroapically admixed with whitish hairs in variable amount; venter entirely pale yellow. Legs black; coxae, trochanters and femora predominantly pale ochreous; in one specimen longer corbicular hairs with whitened tips. Although the current subspecific recognition by TKALCÛ (1962) is adopted here, the Korean specimens are distinctly darker and more variable in coloration in both workers and males than in the Japanese specimens: (Worker) Korea Japan wide, constantly appearing entirely whitish or yellowish white as T 4 black but apical margin dirty white entirely dirty white, black hairs if any, sparsely scattered disc ally variable, predominantly dirty white to predominantly black; boundary between white and black areas ill-defined Specific distribution: Northern Europe, Ural, Siberia including Kamtchatka, Ussuri, Saghalien, Mountains in Honshu, China (Manchuria, S. Ganshu), Altai, Korea (L0KEN op. cit., TKALCÛ 1962). Bombus (Megabombus) czerskii Skorikov Bombus czerskii Skorikov 1909: Rev. Russ. Ent. 1909: 413; Fig. 10. Loc. SKORIKOV (1933) already referred to the occurrence of this species in Korea (Gensan = Wonsan in SE; hatched circle in Fig. 10). PANFILOV (op. cit.) also noted its occurrence there without giving details. The present records authentically confirm its presence in North Korea. The female of this species is easily separable from other sympatric species of Megabombus by the following features: short pubescence, shorter malar areas, relatively large body size, wider ocellocullar punctate band, etc. These features are more or less shared by the two European species, B. (Megab.) argillaceus and B. (Megab.) ruderatus , suggesting affinity. Concerning male, see Tg apical ciliation absent or narrow T^ variable but basally black, apically whitish variable; medially black, laterally whitish (Male) Tg variable, but basally black, apically ochre T^ 5 basally black, apically yellowish or dirty white with occasional admixture of dark hairs on apical or mediapical margin Tg predominantly black, lateroapically with variable amount of whitish hairs
