of the penultimate. Pronotum longer than broad (5:4), puncturation moderately dense, but less so than on head, punctures umbilicate; leaving a narrow, central, impunctate shining band, broadest at anterior third, straight for posterior third. Elytra longer than broad (6.75:5.0), shining, densely punctured more so than pronotum, parallel-sided, suture rather strongly bordered. Scutelium punctate. Abdomen finely and densely punctured, shining, finely setose, parallel-sided for most of its length. Legs long, slender, finely setose. - Length 8 mm. Holotype cf, Blackwater River, Sepik, vi. 1974; paratypes (2 cf, 10 ç ) same data; paratype (1 o) Gogol. 14.xi.1969 at light. Ochthephilum squalidipes (Fauv.) Further data: Karimul, 26.ill. 1973 (1 6 ); Goroka, Bena River, 17.ix. 1972 (1 o ). Ochthephilum angustea sp. n. This species compared with O. banksi Bernh. has the head less parallel-sided, the posterior corners much less distinct; the puncturation of the head and elytra finer, and the posterior corners of the latter without the red colouration of banksi. - Black, except apex of abdomen and the antennae; legs very pale yellow. Head longer than broad (4.5:3.75) densely punctured, more strongly at posterior margin; eyes very convex extending well beyond the contour of the head; thefr longitudinal diameter shorter than the temples (1:2.5) which are weakly rounded to the "neck", with very short fine pubescence; antennae geniculate which is a generic character, second segment a little shorter than the third, four and five of equal length as the second, six and seven a little shorter, but longer than broad, eight to ten about as broad as long, last segment rather globose equal in length to the penultimate. Pronotum longer than broad (4.75:3.5), moderately densely punctured, not quite as dense as the head, leaving a shining impunctate narrow median line; rounded from the anterior margin, parallel-sided for the posterior half, posterior margin broader than the anterior. Elytra longer than broad (6:5), densely punctured and with a distinct microsculpture on Interstices, suture bordered, parallel-sided. Scutelium punctured. Abdomen finely and moderately densely punctured with fine short setae. Legs with tibiae finely setose. - Length 8 mm. Holotype o unique, Goroka, Bena River, 17.ix. 1972. Ochthephilum fimbria sp. n. This species is very similar to O. banksi Bernh. (from the Philippines), but differs In having the head not quite so densely punctured, the broad red patches on the postero-external corners of the elytra of banksi are represented only by a narrow red posterior margin; the apex of the femora are broadly black, in banksi they are unicolorous yellow. It is also similar to O. submar- glnatum Cam. (from Java) but the colour of the legs Is again the main separating character. Head, pronotum and abdomen black, elytra black with a narrow posterior margin of red; segments of the antennae dark with base of each reddish except last three which are dusky yellow throughout; legs yellow with apex of femora black. Head longer than broad (4.25:3.75), moderately shining, and moderately densely punctured, less so towards clypeus; eyes convex, their longitudinal diameter half as long again as the length of the temples, from the base of the eye is an elongate sulcus forming a ridge almost to the posterior corners and easily seen from directly above and where there are some short setae. Antennae of typical formation with the last three segments of equal length and shorter than the remainder. Pronotum longer than broad (4:3.25), shining, puncturatlon stronger than that of the head, leaving a narrow median impunctate band; broadest at anterior third narrowing a little to the posterior margin, narrower and more rounded at anterior margin, with short setae laterally. Elytra longer than broad (5.5:4), densely punctured, more so than the pronotum, parallel-sided, with short rather dense lateral setae . Abdomen moderately shining, tergites very finely and densely punctured and with fine setae. Legs setose. - Length 7 mm. Holotype o unique, Marlfuanga, Goroka, 8400 ft, 27.11.1971.
