bristles. Pronotum as long as broad, moderately densely punctured, more densely than in P. gogo lensis sp. n. but leaving a median impunctate area from the anterior to the posterior margin; shining, without microsculpture, with short lateral bristles, moderately convex, parallel-sided. Elytra a little longer than broad, shining, moderately densely punctured, more so than in P .gogo lensis sp. n., with fine semi-decumbent setae; suture narrowly bordered. Scutelium large with basal half reticulate, apical half shining with a few punctures only. Abdomen sparingly and finely punctured, with extremely fine alutaceous microsculpture,, parallel-sided for most of its length. Legs typically robust, intermediate tibiae particularly spinose, anterior tarsi strongly bilobed in both sexes. - Length 11 mm. Holotype cf , Morehead, 12.xi. 1974; paratypes (8 ci, 13 j) same data; paratype ( $> ) Blackwater River, Sepik, vi. 1974; paratype (ci") Okapa, 27. viii . 1965, forest litter. Collector R. HORNABROOK . Medon pineti sp. n. This species can be compared with M. cyclopius Cam., it differs in having the head, pronotum and elytra more densely punctured and less shining; otherwise it is very similar. - Red, abdomen slightly darker. Head slightly transverse (2.0:1.75) densely punctured except at clypeus, interstices in most places less than the diameter of the punctures; eyes not very convex, their longitudinal diameter about half the length of the temples which are parallel-sided and with a number of short porrect bristles; first segment of the antennae about equal to the four following together which are as long as broad, segments five to ten transverse, last segment bulbous; labrum with central emargination; mandibles slender and pointed and with two teeth. Pronotum transverse (2,0:1.5) more strongly but not so densely punctured as the head, leaving a median impunctate band which \ does not reach the posterior margin; anterior margin more rounded than the posterior, with a r few lateral bristles; "neck" broad, about one-third the width of the pronotum. Elytra a little Ion-ger than broad (2.25:2.0), more densely punctured than the pronotum, parallel-sided, "shoulders' 1 distinct, weakly, broadly sinuate to suture; with very short bristles: Abdomen very finely and ?*' sparsely punctured. Legs sparingly spinose, more so on femora. - Length 3-3.5 mm. Holotype j>, Okasa, pine forest leaf mould, 3600 ft, 11. vii rÍ965; paratypes (3 5) same data. Thinocharis ignobilis sp. n. This species is smaller and more slender than T. papuanus Cam. and T. nigricans Cam, (from Sumatra), the temples are more rounded than those of the latter. - Dark fuscus, pronotum a little paler, antennae and legs yellow. Head a little longer than broad, extremely finely punctured, labrum with a central emargination, with a triangular depression from the vertex to the clypeus, eyes small, their longitudinal diameter less than one third of the length of the temples which are gradually rounded. Antennae with the first two segments much broader than the remainder, which is the main generic character; first segment twice as long as broad, second segment half the length of thé first, almost globose, segments three to seven a little longer than broad, eight to ten as broad as long, last segment longer than the penultimate and acuminate, with fine white setae. Pronotum a little longer than broad, parallel-sided, "neck" about a third the width : of the pronotum; a median elongate line from which the sides laterally "fall" with a few short setae, extremely finely punctured. Elytra a little longer than broad, a little broader than the pronotum, parallel-sided extremely finely and densely punctured, dull. Abdomen extremely finely punctured and with very short pubescence. Legs with femora robust. - Length 2 mm. Holotype, Tuoima River, Lae-Wau road, 1500 ft, 2.Ü.1968; paratypes (3 ex) same data. Ochthephilum aethrum sp. n. The puncturation of the head of this species is very similar to that of O. methneri Bernh. (from Nigeria), the puncturation of the elytra very similar to that of O. elephas Fauv. (from India), but in several other details it is quite different from both. - Colour fuscous, elytra a little brighter reddish, legs much paler. Head longer than broad (7.0:5.75), strongly and densely punctured, interstices mostly narrower than the diameter of the punctures, eyes convex, their longitudinal diameter mucii shorter than the length of the temples (1.25:3.5) and these have moderately dense porrect bristles; antennae with second segment half the length of the third; segments four to
