finely and densely punctured especially marked on the head and pronotum, and is therefore less shining; It Is a little smaller and the aedeagus differs (figs 25-26). - Head, pronotum, elytra, except posterio-external corners, and abdomen black, basal and apical segments of antennae and palpi reddish, legs yellow. Head as broad as long, orbicular, densely and finely punctured except at clypeus; temples half as long again as the longitudinal diameter of the eyes which are moderately convex, temples also with a few outstanding slender bristles; antennae with all segments much longer than broad, each narrower at the base, segments two to eight of about equal length, nine to eleven a little shorter, last segment equal In length to the penultimate, acuminate, finely pubescent. Pronotum longer than broad (4:3), moderately densely punctured but leaving a median elongate impunctate band, puncturation coarser than that of the head, sub-parallel-sided, anterior margin strongly converging to the "neck", posterior margin straight but with corners rounded, with a few short lateral setae. Elytra longer than broad (4.5:3.75), parallel-sided, moderately densely and finely punctured as pronotum, with short setae, suture narrowly bordered and raised. Abdomen extremely finely and very densely punctured and pubescent similar to that of the genus Oxy- poda Mannh. Legs with femora robust especially the anterior pair, tibiae broader at the apex where they are obliquely truncate. - Length 6 mm. Holotype cf, Blackwater River, Sepik, vi. 1974; paratypes (6 ex) same data. Lathrobium naviculum sp. n. This species is larger than L. seplkense sp. n., the puncturation of the pronotum and elytra is not arranged in elongate rows, but is denser and finer especially on the head. The aedeagi also differ (figs 27-28). - Black, legs, antennae and mouthparts red. Head as broad as long, parallelsides, moderately shining, moderately densely and strongly punctured; eyes not very convex, their longitudinal diameter one quarter of the length of the temples from which are dense short bristles; second segment of the antennae shorter than the first and third, segments four to six about as long as the second, seven to ten a little shorter than the previous, last segment a little longer than the penultimate, moniliform. Pronotum as long as broad, moderately punctured but leaving an irregular elongate central band, almost parallel-sided, anterior corners distinct, posterior corners rounded, with lateral bristles. Elytra longer than broad (4.5:3.0), finely but not densely punctured, more finely than on head and pronotum, moderately shining, parallel-sided; narrowly bordered at suture, with fine pubescence. Scutelium with very fine microsculpture. Abdomen very finely punctured and pubescent, parallel-sided for most of its length. Legs with slender spines. - Length 7 mm. Holotype cf unique, Goroka district, ix.1971. Lathrobium cyanea sp. n. There appears to be no other species of Lathrobium Grav. so far described with which this species can be usefully compared due largely to the shining blue colour and the rows of large punctures on the elytra. - Head, and pronotum and elytra dark blue-green not quite so green as the elytra of Hesperus glaucus Last, but bright and more shining than in Hesperus violaceus Fauv.. it has rows of large punctures on the elytra as In L. australlcum Solsk., also In L. punctum sp. n. In size It Is similar to L. fovulum Sharp or L. quadratum Payk. The abdomen is blue-black; the legs black, the tarsi and antennae lighter In colour. Head broader than long (4.0:3.5), shining, with very few scattered punctures, eyes moderately transverse, their longitudinal diameter a little shorter than the temples which bear outstanding bristles; second segment of the antennae shorter than first or third, the first longer than the third and broader than all the others, segments four to eleven each a little shorter than the previous the last three obconical, finely setose; labrum deeply bifid and with numerous slender bristles. Pronotum as long as broad, shining, without microsculpture, Impunctate except for two rows of four small punctures similar to those of Phi- lonthus Stph. or some Hesperus species, a few lateral punctures with short bristles, broadest just below anterior corners which are distinct, convex, laterally straight narrowing a little to the posterior margin. Elytra longer than broad (5:4), shining, without microsculpture, with three rows of large punctures, the row from the humeral corner containing six or seven punctures, six or seven along the suture, the row between of four or five, suture bordered; parallel-sided, with short setae. Scutelium shining, with two punctures. Abdomen moderately shining, puncturatlon very One and scattered, with extremely fine transverse microsculpture, with the exception of tergites three and four, with fairly long lateral bristles. Legs with long bristles, more dense on anterior and
