tinct, but in most species the black markings vary considerably. The aedeagus separates it from other species (fig. 1). - Reddish-yellow, legs and antennae paler, a central dark blotch on the anterior part of the head and a median dark band on the pronotum, the tergites are also laterally darkened. Head a little broader than long, finely but distinctly umbllicate-reticulate, the eyes very convex, their longitudinal diameter equal to the length of the temples, which have slender outstanding bristles; antennae with all segments longer than broad, the first stouter and longer than the others, the second quite short equal to the length of the penultimate, last segment longer than penultimate, broader and acuminate at apex, Pronotum longer than broad, reticulation similar to the head, with three strong outstanding bristles at the anterior corners, slightly narrowing to the posterior margin. Elytra longer than broad (4.25:3.0), finely and densely punctured and pubescent, with five or six long bristles. Abdomen finely punctured and pubescent with lateral bristles. Length 4-5 mm. Holotype cf, Okasa, 5.vii.l965; paratype cf same data. In leafmould in pine forest (R.HORNABROOK). • ' ; i Stilicopsis distinctus sp. n. This species is similar to S. persimilis Cam. and S. cheesmani Cam. It is rather smaller than the former and larger than the latter, the puncturation of the elytra is also finer than in persimilis and stronger than in cheesmani ; the black marking of the head, pronotum and elytra are also similar to both, the unmistakable difference is in the form of the aedeagus (fig. 2). - Reddishyellow, head largely suffused black, three longitudinal bands of black on the pronotum, elytra with a varied pattern of black areas which predominate over the reddish-yell,ow, abdomen with lateral black borders. Head as broad as long, distinctly umbilicate-punctate; eyes large convex, their longitudinal diameter a little shorter than the temples which converge to the neck; antennae robust, all segments longer than broad, second segment about as short as the tenth, last segment longer than the penultimate strongly sinuate at apex. Pronotum as broad as long, umbilicate-punctate, parallel-sided, the anterior corners with three blunt crenulations which usually bear bristles .Elytra longer than broad (4.5:3.5), strongly and densely punctured, with very short pubescence, shining. Abdomen finely punctured and pubescent, moderately shining. - Length 5-5.5 mm. Holotype cf, Kandep and Mende Road, Western Highlands, crest of mountain range, 30.xi. 1975. Paratype J, same data; paratype cf Mt.Giluwe, Western Highlands, 4.XÜ.1975 (R. HORNABROOK). Stilicopsis singularis sp. n. This species is similar to S. cheesmani Cam, but differs in having shorter antennái segments, longer elytra, and a different structure of the aedeagus (figs 3, 4 & 5). - Reddish-yellow, vertex of head, a narrow median line on pronotum and a number of small blotches on the elytra darker or black, tergites also laterally darker. Head broader than long, finely umbilicate-reticulate, eyes large, convex, their longitudinal diameter a little less than length of the temples from which are a few rather short porrect bristles. Left antenna (of holotype) with only basal five segments which are short but longer than broad, the first typically the longest and more robust. Pronotum slightly longer than broad, reticulation as on the head, with a few bristles on anterior corners. Elytra longer than broad, strongly and densely punctured, shining, with short yellow pubescence.Abdomen finely punctured, with yellow setae, longer than on elytra and denser laterally; in the male sternite is deeply triangularly emarginate. - Length 5 mm. Holotype 6 unique, Mount Michael, 5.x. 1975 (R. HORNABROOK). Stilicopsis planus sp. n. This species differs from S. marmoratus Cam., by the finer puncturation of the elytra and the shorter segments of the antennae, it is of about the same size. - Dull yellow, with darker markings forming a median elongate stripe on the head and pronotum and lateral borders to the head and pronotum, also a variable pattern on the elytra also laterally. The darker markings are subject to variation as are indeed most other Papua New Guinea species. Head as broad as long, umbilicate-punctate but not so well defined as in some other species. Eyes large, convex, their longitudinal diameter equal to the length of the temples, which are rounded to the "neck" .Segments of the antennae longer than broad, the penultimate being the shortest, last segment longer than the
