Prothorax L. 120 .u, W. 210 ^i, fore margin nearly straight, hind margin gently rounded. Dorsum with sparse Irregular minuta setulae, hind margin with three pairs of small setae, the middle pair 12 ii, sculpture consisting of conspicuous fine transversal lines. Pterothorax L. 372 ji, W. 291 p. Mesoscutum bearing four pairs of setae; on pair of weak setae (16 y) situated in the middle of fore margin at a distance of 42 ji from one another, one pair of stout setae (37 y) situated close to the sides of mesoscutum, one pair of stout setae (40 ji) near to hind margin, and one pair (25 ji) in the middle, at a distance of 48 y from one another. Metascutum bearing no setae. Furca and spina perfectly developed in both the meso- and metathorax. Wings L. 870 u, W. 115-124 JI. The dark wavy band in the posterior half on fore wings L. 496, W. 62 n, and at the narrow part W. 31 ji (Fig. 1). Costa with about 40 bristles, upper vein with 7-8, lower vein about 20 bristles, all these bristles short, weak and colourless. Legs: fore tarsi on the inner side with a small aeolothripoid hook. L. of tibiae I. 73; II. 55; III. 98 ji. Apical portion of hind tibiae with combs of not very strong setae on inner side, terminal spiny setae 26 JJ. Abdomen L. 720 ji. In the middle rather wide, backwards abruptly narrower. W. at segment II. 170 ji, at the middle of abdomen 290 ji, at the hind margin of segment VIII. 211 >i. On the sternite of segment VII. Sj 38 ji, situated at a distance of 76 ii from one another, Sg 40 JJ, situated at a distance of 45^1 from setae S-^, S^ 35 u. Sternites with 4 pairs of accessory setae.Segment IX. very strongly built longer than segment VTII., L. 93 ,u, W. at base 170 ji, at hind margin 108 a. Dorsal pori situated at a distance of 57 u from one another and of 38 n from the hind margin of segment. Sj 128 ji, situated at a distance from one another 36 u, S 2 128 u at a distance of 28 ii from Sj, Sg 43 ji. Segment X. L. 93 ji, W. at base 90 u, at hind margin 50 u.Pori situated close to lateral margin of segment, at a distance of 58 n from hind margin of segment. Sj 110 ii situated at a distance of 58 >i from hind margin of segment and of 62 u from one another. The internal pair of setae 40 JI, external pair of setae 42 a long situated close to the hind margin of segment. Total body L. about 1.2 mm. Remarks. Ae . afghanus belongs to the group of Ae. versicolor. It differs from Ae. versicolor by the dark wavy band in the posterior half of fore wings, the colouration of antennae, chaetotaxy of mesoscutum, segments LX. and X. Locality: Afghanistan. Two macropterous females were collected by L. PAPP at Kandahar, 10 km SW far from city centre, 1000 m. At stony, loamy semi-desert with very sparse vegetation. 23. May, 1974.
