Holotype 5 (Type No. 105, B.U.Ent.), Dam site, Silent Valley, Kerala (altitude 1030 m a. S.I.), 5.V. 1980, Coll. P.K. Basak.Paratypes 6 86, data as for holotype. Considering the first record of the representative of the genus from India, the species is named as Chaetocladius orientális. It seems to bear some affinities with the males of C . vallidus Brundin (1956) from Swedish Lappland in anal point of male hypopygium. Similarly, the BRUNDIN's species, C . accuniatus and C. gelidus from Norway come nearer to this species with respect to the anal point and gonostylus of the male hypopygium. But the differences in thoracic chaetotaxy, wing, squama, bare anal point and the absence of basal lobe of gonocoxite and the structure of gonostylus are sufficient enough to regard it as new member of the genus Chaeto cladius Kieffer from the Orient.
