FOLIA ENTOMOLOGICA HUNGARICA ROVARTANI KÖZLEMÉNYEK XLIII. 1. 1982 p. 69-76 Some new Tarsonemids (Acari: Tarsonemina) from Madagascar By S. MAHUNKA (Received Februar 1, 1982) Abstract: Three new Tarsonemina species ( Heterodispus madagascarensis sp.n., Scutacarus (Variatipes) woynaroyjchi sp.n., Tarsonemus malgasensis sp.n.) are described from Malgas, collected by Dr. E. WOYNAROVICH. While staying in Madagascar, Dr. E. WOYNAROVICH (Budapest) the renown hydrobiologist has collected some soil samples for the Hungarian Natural History Museum. The samples were extracted by him in Berlese funnels on the spot. This material also incheded Tarsonemid mites, of which three species are new for science and described hereunder. Scutacaridae Heterodispus (H.) madagascarensis sp.n. Measurements. - Length: 200 /am, width: 140 yum. Habitus: Body elongate, clypeus much broader than any other segment, margin rounded. Dorsal side (Fig. 1): Clypeal margin very wide. Clypeal setae originating in a common transversal line, nearly equal in length, both pairs scarcely ciliated. Setae of segments D-H differing in length, their proportions as ad^ (26 /am) = e-^ h 2 (21 um)^> hj (12 /im)^> e 2 . All setae distinctly ciliated. Setae of Ps-segment short, pSg represented only by alveoli. Ventral side (Fig. 3): Anterior sternal plate narrow, posterior one very wide, its anterolateral margin conspicuously dilated and rounded. All apodemes on anterior sternal plate normally developed, ap.sp. on posterior sternal plate very thick, ap. 4 short, hardly visible. Epimeral setae different in shape la, 3c and 4c thickened, blunt, all others thin. Setae 2b much longer than la or 2a. Setae 3a and 3b arising in a transversal line, 4b originating far before 4a, latter pairs only a little shorter (23 urn) than the first ones (25 ^um). All setae well ciliated. Legs: Claw of leg I (Fig. 2) small, situated on a well-developed peduncle. Setae d, ld 3 ' ' and ld 2 *'' short, sitting on a large triapicate peg. Solenidium LO J longer than seta d, (f j with thickened head. Setae ldj* ' of legs H-m strongly thickened, ui j long. Pretarsus of leg rv very short, without ambulacrum. Material examined: Holotype (710-HT-82): Madagascar, Kianjasoa, Keragasohe, 20.X. 1981, leg. WOYNAROVICH, E. - Holotype preserved in the Hungarian Natural History Museum, Budapest. Remarks: On the basis of the shape of leg IV, the new species belongs to the " reductus " species group (see: MAHUNKA, 1977), however, its leg I with claw, and also the ratio of dorsal setae Is different than that of the allied species.
