Hesperus mirus sp.n. Compared with H. saltus (Last) this species is larger, and the antennae more robust; the elytra are of the same vivid green but appearing more brilliant due to the very much sparser and larger puncturation. The head and pronotum are without microsculpture and they lack the greenish tinge as in saltus ; the arrangement of the punctures is similar to that of K . glaucus Last, but It is much larger and cannot be confused with this species. Completel}' black, except elytra, which are brilliant green and the last two segments of the antennae which are creamy-white (Aedeagus Fig. 30). Head transverse (8:5.75), shining, without microsculpture with a few large punctures near the eyes and on the temples with long black bristles; labrum bilobed, fringed with long bristles. Eyes not very convex, their longitudinal diameter a little shorter than the length of the temples, which are rounded to the "neck" and which have two or three long outstanding bristles; antennae with second segment a little shorter than the third, which is a little shorter than the first, segments four to seven much shorter but broader, segments eight to ten quadrate, or slightly transverse, last segment asymmetrically acuminate, all segments with setae or bristles. Pronotum slightly broader than long (8:7), with two rows of four large punctures and others at anterior corners and lateral margins with long bristles, shining, without microaculpture, anterior corners distinct, posterior corners rounded. Elytra as broad as long, very shining, without microsculpture, with large sparse punctures, and a lateral depression just below the humeral corners, with long lateral bristles, raised along suturai margins. Scutellum large, with fine puncturation towards the apex. Abdomen narrowing towards the apex, with a row of large crescentric punctures at base of tergites, with extremely fine microsculpture, and rather long apical bristles. Legs long, spinose. Length 15 mm. Holotype ê unique, Frigano, Okapa, Eastern Highlands. 15.7.1972 (B . Hornabrook). Hesperus richardi Last, var. transformis var.n. This variety has been named from thirty specimens all taken from the same locality and all differed from the type form by the following details. The type form has the legs completely black and the last two segments of the antennae cream-coloured; in the variety transformis , the femora are red and only the last segment of the antennae is cream-coloured. Holotype 5 Wantoat Valley N. Guinea, 18.8.1972. Paratypes (29 ex) same data (R . Hornabrook). in several species of this genus the femora are of two colours, i.e., black or red. It is true that the cream-coloured apical segments of the antennae also vary a little in number, but the differences mentioned above are consistent in thirty specimens which it is considered justifies a varietal name . Hesperus moroensis sp.n. This species has the same facies as H. hirsutus Last, but it differs in the following details. The head is more parallel-sided, the temples longer, it is quite finely and densely punctured for the posterior half which is rather unusual for apeciea in this genus. The abdomen is more finely and densely punctured and more finely setose, and it. has a fine distinct alutaceous microsculpture. The elytra have the same patch of white pubescence at the postero-external corners as in hirsutub . Unfortunately the unique type has incomplete antennae. Head transverse (7:6), moderately shining, without microsculpture, with fine dense puncturation for the posterior half extending round the inner margins of the eyes; the interocular punctures are present but are not as large as usual. Eyes not very convex, their longitudinal diameter shorter than the temples (2:2.75) and these are parallel-sided; the much abbreviated antennae have the basal segments much longer than broad. Pronotum longer than broad (8:6.75), moderately shining, without microsculpture, with two rows of four punctures, otherwise impunctate, broadest at anterior third, strongly convex and deeply sinuate at anterior fourth, with a few bristle bearing punctures at anterior corners. Elytra longer than broad (10:9), broader than pronotum, densely finely punctured, and pubescent, with lateral bristles, suture broadly bordered. Scutellum densely punctured and pubescent. Abdomen very finely and moderately punctured and pubescent, with fine alutaceous microsculpture. Legs long, tibiae sparingly spinoae. Length 11.5 mm. Holotype o, unique, Madang Dia tri et, Finisterre Mts., Moro, c. 5550 ft. 30.10-15.11.1964 (M.E. Bacchus). Stn. No. 85 B.M. 1965-120.
