asius hayashi Yamauchi et Hayashida - Locality Nos. 194, 196 Ryang Gang Province; 273, 276 South Pyongan Province; 304, 305 Pyong Sang Province; 315 Gang-von Province. 09 66. - These were taken variously by sweeping in woodland areas. Large numbers of males were caught by mv lamp at Hyesan. The males have much less appendage pilosity than L.niger and have a more bicoloured appearance with the alitrunk brownish rather than greyish black. (Figures 3, 4). Lasius flavus (Fabricius) - Locality No. 275 Ryang Gang Province, Hyesan, Mt Ze-dong 1150 m, 1 jj>; 322 Gang-von Province On-Dzong Kum-gang san, 1 p. - Both specimens are typical La sius flavus queens and are recorded from North Korea for the first time. The Ryang Gang example was taken by singling along the edge of a Larix wood while the Gang-von example was collected by mv light trap in a conifer/Robinia woodland. Lasius fuliginosus (Latreille). Locality Nos. 324 Gang-von Province On-dzong district; 331 Pyong-Sung, Bek-sung-11, Za-mo san. - These were taken by sweeping along the Ok-radong and also in Castanea woodland in baited soil traps. This widespread species which also occurs in the Himalayas appears to be nore common in North Korea than the other members of this group of jet black ants.
