S. Mahunka szerk.: Folia Entomologica Hungarica 33/2. (Budapest, 1980)

without tubercle, clypeal knob absent. Surface covered with scarcely visible micropunctures . Pronotum broader than long, sides lightly curved. Anterior angles obtuse, weakly produced, posterior angles rounded. Basis without border. Punctation on disc very fine, very sparse, on sides stronger and dense . Elytral striae everywhere, also on apex impressed (in paratype shallower than in holotype), very finely and densely punctate, punctures not notching sides of convex intervals, latter very finely reticulated, not very shiny. Anterior tibiae tridentate. Transversal carinae of hind tibiae strong, apical bristles unequal. Hind basitarsi much longer than upper thorn of hind tibiae and not much longer than following two joints together. Length: 5 mm. - Examined material 2 specimens. Types: Holotype: S. Afr., N. Transvaal, Nylsvley, Smit frm ., 24°40' S-28°42' E, E-Y Nr. 993, leg. Endrődy-Younga; paratype: with the same collecting data, but E-Y Nr. 926. Named in honour of my friend, Dr. Gary BERNON (Bowling Green, Ohio). Similar to A . inornatus Schmidt, but in this species the clypeus is strongly punctate, punctures on pronotum rather big, on sides bigger and more numerous, hind basitarsi somewhat longer than following three joints together, etc. Aphodius (Bodilus) nylsvleyicus sp. n. Reddish brown, elytra somewhat brighter, disc of pronotum not or scarcely darker. Apex of clypeus emarginated, both sides of emargination rounded, genae produced behind eyes. Frontal suture fine, straight, weakly raised in a carina, without tubercle, clypeal knob weak. Surface finely and densely punctate, only behind anterior margin in the middle almost smooth. Pronotum much broader than long, sides almost straight, in female very weakly curved and somewhat more converging to apex. Anterior angles scarcely produced, hind angles obtuse. Basis bordered. Surface very distinctly, in both sexes very densely punctate, punctures equal. Scutellum triangular. Elytral striae weakly furrowed, very finely and densely punctate. Intervals almost flat, finely and sparsely, striate almost as on pronotum, sides and apex not darkened, shiny, as also disc often very finely pubescent. Anterior tibiae tridentate, behind basal tooth not serrate, longitudinal carina on under side without distinct teeth, apical spur opposite to middle outer tooth. Transversal carinae of hind tibiae strong, apical bristles equal, short, not very dense. Hind basitarsi as long as upper thorn of hind tibiae and about as following two joints together. Length: 5.5-8 mm. - Examined material 150 specimens. Types: Holotype and 7 paratypes: S. Afr. Transvaal, Nylsvley, Smith Farm, 24 40'S-28 42'E, E-Y 1146, leg. Somewhat similar to A . calaharicus m ., but in latter the pubescence on the sides of pronotum and on elytra is stronger, intervals of elytra very sparsely punctate, hind basitarsi much shorter than the upper thorn of hind tibiae and as long as the following three joints together, etc. 3,7
