The larval nests are to be found on hawthorn bushes, but the larvae can be reared, after the thir moulting, on the leaves of any lignifying plant species. (13 6, 7 o). - At the end of April, 1979, we found great numbers of caterpillars nests near the entrance to the Fáni valley, but only on blackthorn and none on hawthorn bushes. The larvae separate after moulting an live solitarily (contrarily to the preceding species). During the phase of separation (about three days) no feeding caterpillar could be observed. By the end of this short interval, the larvae feed on the leaves of a number of lignifying plants (they had been given oak, willow, hawthorn, apple, pear, and plum), accepting even blackthorn, their original foodplant.
