FOLIA ENTOMOLOGICA HUNGARICA ROVARTANI KÖZLEMÉNYEK (SERIES NOVA) p. 207-217 XXXH. 2. 1979 Zoological Collectings by the Hungarian Natural History Museum in Korea 47. A Report of the Collecting of the Fifth Expedition By A. VOJN1TS and L. ZOMBORI (Received April 22, 1979) Abstract: A report is given on the zoological collecting in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea in September-October 1978. A unified spelling of the geographical and locality names is proposed based on English language publications in Korea. The periodically signed agreement between the Korean Academy of Sciences and the Hungarian Academy of Sciences again gave the opportunity for two research workers of the Hungarian Natural History Museum, Budapest to make zoological collectings in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea in September-October of 1978. The principal aim similarly was twofold: to help explore the fauna of Korea, on the one hand, and to enrich the material of the various collections of the Zoological Department of our Museum, on the other. Since the previous four expeditions (MAHUNKA and STEINMANN, 1971; PAPP and HORVATOVICH, 1972; PAPP and VOJNITS, 1976; DELY and DELY-DRASKOVITS, 1978) covered the best seasons of the year, at least as far as weather and collecting conditions are concerned (from the second half of May to the first half of September), we considered a late expedition to be most welcome. This was made possible through the understanding and assistance of several sponsoring institutions, first of all, the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and the Ministry of Culture on the Hungarian part, as well as the Department of Foreign Relations of the Korean Academy of Sciences. For practically realizing the numerous and in three cases very long excursions in Korea we are greatly indebted to the. Director of the Zoological Research Institute .of the Korean Academy of Sciences and his staff, especially our escorts Messrs. Rl NUNG IL and O HUNG THAM (in both cases the first name is the surname), who made their best that our stay during this one month be pleasant and fruitful. We flew from Budapest on the 19th of September, 1978 and touching Moscow we reached Khabarovsk next morning. Since we had some six hours to spend until our aeroplane connection to Korea, we roamed about the countryside collecting insects and a number of galls. In the afternoon we boarded an aeroplane bound for the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and after some five hours of flying we landed in the capital of Pyongyang. We spent 26 fuU days in Korea, of this number four and a half days were devoted to various cultural programmes, the rest including even Sundays were utilized for coUecting. / In the forenoon of the 17th of October, 19 78 we boarded a return plane to Moscow, which we/ reached in the early afternoon hours just in time to catch another aeroplane back to Budapest touching down in our capital still in twilight. Concerning the autumn season of the year in Korea we had no previous information whatever. Thus, we experienced in the first part of our stay, until the 2nd of October, a very
