FOLIA ENTOMOLOGICA HUNGARICA ROVARTANI KÖZLEMÉNYEK (SERIES NOVA) XXXII. 2. 1979 p. 169-170 New synonyms in African Clytrinae (Coleoptera : Chrysomelidae) By L. N. MEDVEDEV (Received December 15, 1978) Abstract: The revision of African Clytrini (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) resulted 27 new synonyms, 7 new statuses and 1 new combination in the following genera: Peploptera, Melitonoma, Phoenicodera, Smeia, Aetheomorpha, Barybaena, Paralytra , Herma, Anisognatha, Antipa and Gynandrophthalma. In the present work I list new synonyms which have been established in the course of my work with the types of African Clytrinae. I had an opportunity to study the types of all species mentioned below, described by JACOBY, LEFEVRE, WEISE, CLAVAREAU, PIC, BURGEON and BRYANT and some of LACORDAIRE's types from the genera Peploptera, Melito noma , Aetheomorpha and Gynandrophthalma, through the kindness of Dr. R. T. THOMPSON, (British Museum /Natural History/, London), Dr. P. BASILEVSKY (Musée Royal de l'Afrique centrale, Tervuren), Miss. N. BERTI (Museum National d'Histoire Naturelle, Paris) and Dr. F. HIEKE (Zoologisches Museum zu Berlin). Most of the names in this list are plain synonyms, a few of them differing only in colour pattern; others are ob subspecific value. In addition the status of forms erroneously synonymyzed by BRYANT and MONROS is discussed. Peploptera pallipes Clavareau, 1906 = P. meruensis Weise, 1909 (syn.nov. ) = P. minuta Bryant, 1948 (syn. nov. ) = P. kaszabi L. Medvedev, 1962 (syn. nov. ) = P. katonica L. Medvedev, 19 62 (syn.nov. ) The following colour variations are known for this species: a) prothorax with black central longitudinal stripe, which may be entire, interrupted in the middle or reduced to small black spots on anterior and posterior margins; b) preapical elytral black band entire or interrupted; c) legs fulvous or with black femora; d) venter black or red. Peploptera eckloni Lacordaire, 1848 = P. quadripunctata Jacoby, 1897 (syn.nov. ) This species is not a synonym of P. dorsata Lac., as was stated by MONROS (1953). Peploptera ertii Weise, 1905 = P. mandibularis Bryant, 1948 = P. dollmani Bryant, 1948 Peploptera suturalis Clavareau, 1906 = P. angolensis Weise, 1919 • P. monardi Pic, 1931 Peploptera cylindriformis Lacordaire, 1848 • P. basiquadrinotata Pic, (1938) (syn.nov. ) sbsp. Sudanica Weise, 1919 (status nov. ) = P. nigçidorsum Bryant, 1948 (syn. nov. ) Peploptera abyssinica Lefèvre, 1877 sbsp. lefevrei Jacoby, 1900 (status novj = P. jacksoni Bryant, 1948 (syn.nov.) sbsp. anchoralis Jacoby, 1900 (status nov. ) sbsp. humeralis Jacoby, 189 7 (status nov. ) Peploptera florida Lacordaire, 1848 = P. marshalli Jacoby, 1901 (syn.nov.)
