Herten - Westf. Duda - 3) (white, 12x7 mm) " Strandi D. o_ Type" (DUDA' s handwriting). The lectotype is in a good state of preservation. In its description DUDA wrote that he had two females. ActuaUy one of them is a male, which was designated as lectotype (collecting place is Stuckenbusch in its description), and it is a specimen of S. caviceps (Stenh. ). Paralectotype female: 1) (red label, 10x2 mm) "8 7 18" - 2) (white label, somewhat cleaved, 11. 5x5 mm ) "Marl-We stf. " - 3) (white, 13x4.5 mm) " Scatoph. Strandi o". This specimen belongs to the species S. signata Loew, 1860, syntypes of which were studied in the collection of LOEW. DUDA had notenough knowledge to the studies on species of Scatophila , that is why he described his strandi on the basis of one specimen each of two even not related species. Scatophila variegata var. inanis Duda, 1942: Deutsche ent. Ztschr. , 1942: 35, is nomen nudum, since no type-specimens were published for it. In the collection of DUDA 100-110 specimens of Scatophila were found under the label "varieg. Lw. v. inanis D". Most of them belong to the species caviceps, but specimens of other two species were found among them. By all means the name inanis Duda must be regarded as invalid. REFERENCES BECKER, Th.
