FOLIA ENTOMOLOGICA HUNGARICA ROVARTANI KÖZLEMÉNYEK (SERIES NOVA) p. 47-4S» 1978 XXXI. 1. Ameranoetus hematobii gen. et sp. nov. from the USA (Acari: Anoetidae) By G. S. IDE and S. MAHUNKA (Received May 15, 1977) Abstract: Description of Ameranoetus hematobii. sp.n. found on Haematobia ir- ritans (Diptera) in the USA. The establishment of a new genus for the mite was also necessary . Guilford S. Ide, Curator of the Acarology Laboratory, Ohio State University, found some very interesting hypopus specimens of Anoetidae collected on Diptera. Examination revealed that not only the species was new, but a new genus had to be erected also for this taxon. This form posed some taxonomic problems, and a satisfactory reply as to its relationship may be formulated only after the discovery of the imagos. According to some features, this form may be placed in the subfamily Anoetinae, while some others speak for a relegation into the Spinanoetinae. Ameranoetus gen. n. Diagnosis (Hypopus): Entire dorsal surface and surface of sternocoxal plates with very coarse sculpture. "Halo" around gnathosoma tinted dark. Anterior sternal plate very wide, posterior one narrow, sejugal apodemes as developed as inner ones. Leg joints strongly elongated, thin, elongation of genu and femur especially striking; latter two of legs I and II not shorter than tibiae. Genu and femur of legs III and IV syndetomeric. Legs I-III bearing a claw each, leg IV without a claw. Solenidion of leg II situated at basal part of tibia. Tarsus of leg IV with chaetotaxy as in leg III. Type-species: Ameranoetus hematobii sp.n. Remarks: The genus is best characterized by the legs. For the time being, it is difficult to find its relations, it is apparently close to Histiostoma Dujardin, 1849. Its coarse sculpture, the development of the apodemes, and certain pedal chaetotaxy approach the genus Copronomoia Mahunka, 1976, but in the new genus the fenestrate shoulder spot is missing. Ameranoetus hematobii sp. n. Measurements. - Length: 192-210/1, breadth: 139-156 p. Dorsal side (Fig. 1): Propodosoma narrow, anterior margin at height of first pair of legs deeply incised, medially no conical apex present. Surface covered, with smaller and
