FOLIA ENTOMOLOGICA HUNGARICA ROVARTANI KÖZLEMÉNYEK (SERIES NOVA) p. 205-207 XXXI. 1. 1978 Tephrina altaica sp. n. from Mongolia (Ennominae IV: Lepidoptera, Geometridae) * Von A. VOJNITS (Received November 22, 1977) Abstract. Tephrina altaica sp. n. is described from Mongolia; with the new species, VOJNITS and VIIDALEPP hitherto recorded 74 Ennominae species from Mongolia. The new Tephrina species found in Mongolia has been collected by Z. KASZAB; this fact is also evinced by the serial number (No. 49) which refers to the specific lists of some preceding publications (VOJNITS, 1974, 1975, 1977). The numerical sequence is continuous. The species displays a rather peculiar external morphology, and I relegate it to the genus Tephrina primarily on the basis of the genital organs. That the specimens representing the new taxon had hitherto been hidden has a rather interesting explanation. Entomologists heretofore discussing Mongolian discussing Mongolian Geometrids considered the specimens in question as representing a Lithostege taxon, and thus they came to hand only at the time of elaborating the exemplars belonging in the subfamily Larentiinae. 49. Tephrina altaica sp. n. Dimensions. Alar expanse of the heretofore known 5 male specimens: 18, 18,5, 19, 19 and 19, 5 mm; that of the two female specimens 2, 5 and 22 mm. Fore wings elongated, costa very slightly concave, termen convex, dorsum straight, this latter essentially longer than termen. Hind wing wide, tornus rounded. Basic colour of fore wing an obscure ochreous yellow, antemedian line yeUowish brown, straight and tending basad. Wider and slightly curved postmedian similarly coloured, as well as irrorated pattern extending over entire wing surface. Discal spot large, elongated, dark brown, very near antemedian and rather near to costa. Hind wing ochreous, more yellowish basally, browner towards margins, irroration finer, punctate. Underside of wings light ochreous, pattern elements brown to Ergebnisse der zoologischen Forschungen von Dr. Z. KASZAB in der Mongolei, Nr. 432.
