on its frontal margin dentate shield much resembling mentum of Oribatidae present, frontal margin carrying also 2 pairs of hairs. Gnathosoma situated below it as are the laterally situated legs. Base of gnathosoma thickened, same emitting densely branching "root-like", filiform formation running towards inner part of body (muscle or nerve bundles?). Gnathosoma modified, palpi fused, instead of solenidion 2 huge hairs much resembling a pinetree present. Apodemes robust but sculpture of sternal plates in dorsal view for the greater part covers them. Adhering plate peculiarly modified includes rudiments of genital and anal openings together with a pair of hairs beside genital opening and sucking disc. Below genital opening a chitinized ring-like opening (?) perceptible. Otherwise construction of adhering disc normal. Structure of legs simple, no pretarsus present. All legs bearing lanceolate hairs . Type-species: Pinoglyphus rettenmeyeri sp. n. Remarks: The construction of gnathosoma with the peculiar fibres, the plate covering it and the construction of adhering plate at the body end are features quite unknown in the superfamily of Acaroidea. Owing to its body construction, pedal chaetotaxy we may suppose a distant relation with Forcellinia - Garsaultia groups, of course, final decision can only be made after further thorough investigations. Pinoglyphidae fam. n. Diagnosis: Identical with the generic description. Type-genus: Pinoglyphus gen, n. Remarks: A specially modified group with very distant relation with the family of Acaridae. The erection of the new family is quite justified. Pinoglyphus rettenmeyeri sp. n. Measurements. - Length: 308 /a, breadth: 156 ja. Habitus. Body peculiar, approximately bottleshaped. Dorsal side densely punctured beset with large foveolae. Surface of sternocoxal region with oplygonal sculpture consisted of densely set punctures and lines. Dorsal side (Fig. 23): Propodosoma coniform, both pairs of hairs originating near base more or less in a common, transversal line. Notogastral hairs peculiarly modified. Hair h^ minute, smooth. Ventral side (Fig. 24): Frontal margin of "mentum" dentate, in bay of outer tooth a larger, somewhat inside on surface a smaller hair present. Gnathosoma (Fig. 25) modified according to description given above. Apodemes weU developed, ap. sa. and two ap. 2 just before sejugal apodemes fused. Apodemes 4 convexly arched. Epimeres 1 without sucking disc, near base of leg a formation resembling insertional point perceptible. Epimeres 3 with a large sucking disc placed on apodemes 4 close to bases of legs III and IV. Distal sternal plate emarginate. Adhering plate round fitting well into this emargination. Legs: Pairs of legs I-II and III-IV placed far from one another. Legs I and II (Fig. 26) of same size. Tarsus of both legs with several lanceolate hairs. Legs III and IV small, joints narrow. Tarsus again bearing lanceolate hairs. Material examined: Holotypus: No. 37 58: Ecuador; deposited in the USNM. Remark: It is a unique species as expounded above under the generic description. I dedicate the new species to Dr. C. W. RETTENMEYER the organizer ard leader of examination concerning Dory line ants.
