Type-genus: Challia BURR, 1904 Challinae subfam. nov. Genital lobes of male penis short, extending at most to half length of paramere; virga within them long. End of metaparamere without incision; but with a big, beak­shaped tooth on inner margin of tip (Pig. 2). - Type-spe­cies: fletcheri BURR, 1904 Challia BURR, 1904 6(3) Wings, tegmina well developed. Males with two genital lobes directed posteriored,and situated usually in about the middle of paramere. Metaparamere of variable form (Pigs. 3-14). Male cerci approximately straight, in some species more or less curved. Neotropic, Ethiopian, Mal­gass ian or Oriental species. - Type-genus: Diplatys SER­VILLE, 1831 Diplatyinae VERHOEPP, I9II 7 (12) Paired metaparameres on antero-lateral margin of para­mere not simple and dentiform, but deeply cleft, thus forming two or more big, sharply divided lobes, or this emargination shallow, thus plate unimerous, but bearing different teeth or a moveable epimere. 8 (ll) Paired metaparamere deeply cleft,apex of plate consisting unambigously of two equal halves, or well discernibly dentate, but without a moveable epimere. 9 (lO) Apical part of paired metaparamere deeply cleft, thus forming two (sometimes more) big, sharply divided and equal lobes (Pig. 3). Apical cleavage dividing metapara­mere into two, inner and outer, obtuse or pointed tusk­like teeth,.of which inner one ending usually in sharply elongated tip. African and Oriental species. - Type-spe­cies: nigriceps (KIRBY) , 1891 Schizodiplatys STEINMANN, 1973 10 (9) Paired metaparamere not cleft on apical part, original outer lobe forming an uniform and distinct tooth, its tip frequently elongated, original inner lobe strongly and generally unrecognizably reduced, and forming only the extremely variable dentition or tooth on inner mar­gin of uniform plate. African and Oriental species. -
