The decline in August and September is followed by a mo­derate increase in October and sometimes early November (around 8 in, 200 mm per month), the dfyest months being January and August with 2 to 3 in (50-75 mm) per month. No particular pe­riod of the year is without precipitation. The number of rainy days averages around 133 (Axim) . The relative humidity is high and fairly constant throughout the year. The monthly average of the 09.00 value "ranges between 83 # (April, November) and 91 # (January), the 06.00 values being higher and the 12.00 values lower than these. The harmattan, the dry north wind of the dry season, reaches the area mildened and only occasionally for a few hours. The fluctuation of temperature is very small. The monthly average of daily minima averages between 72 and 75 F (22-24 C), and the maxima between 80 and 88 F (26.5-31 C) throughout the year. The typical vegetation of this subzone, the evergreen rain forest • occur/a also in a few small areas where the required cli­mátological conditions are provided by higher altitudes. Such isolated areas are some valleys of the Atewa Range near Kibi, and possibly some of the Togo-Atakora range of the Volta re­gion. The small stands of fern trees are restricted to these Map 1.
