SYSTEMATICAL STUDIES ON THE GENUS HAPLOTHRIPS. (THYSANOPTERA) (Summary) by Gyula Fábián. The author in his research occupies himselî with a genus oî the Thysanoptera, a group very uniform morphologically. He tries to mark off the single species based on the male genitalia, as it was first tried by PRIESNER. (6) He terms the parts of the male genitalia as follows ' annulus (text-fig. 1), penis (text-fig 3). páraméra (t?xt fig. '?), praeputial sac (text-fig. 4.), pseudovirga, the „head" and the „end" of the ductus ejaculatorius (text- fig. 5.) and the basal plate between the páraméraIn preparing the genitalia three cases may accure : I. The genitalia of the killed animal may turn quite out. 2. The praeputial sac and the pseudovirga may be seen only. 3. The task of the preparation is the most difficult, if the genitalia as a whole remain contracted in the abdomen. In the first case the author separates the genitalia behind the annulus and puts it on the object-glass, in the second case the two last segments of the abdomen may be separated and put under the cover-glass and in the last one after softening the animal in lactic acid, and after a soft pressing of the abdomen the genitalia turn out. The liquid used is that of „Bérlése". Typical and constant characters affords the pseudovirga. (The revised types of the pseudovirga are to be seen on plate I. and II.) The author summarises his results as follows : 1. ) The species of Haplothrips may be deliminated against each other on the basis of the male-genitalia. 2. ) It is desirable to include into the description of new species also the description and figure of the structure of the pseudovirga as a very important specific character. 3. ) The former divisions of the subgenera are of practical importance only. If further investigations confirm and complete the present results of the author, the old subgeneric division may not remain valid.
