SKELETON OF MARE WIT H FOAL 187 Withers height, stature of the horse: The average withers value estimated by the VITT method (1952) from the base length of the skull (Table 1.) and from the length dimensions of the four long bones (Table 2.) is 133,5 cm, meaning a low body height. The metepoidel bones and finger bones (ph. I.) are medium long and medium slender. The slenderness index value of mc bones is 14,9 (sin.)-15,0 (dext.). The mc/mt longitudinal ratio is 0,820. The coffin-bones (ph. III.) are narrow. The back is relatively short, the chest is long, shallow. The skeleton of the foetus (Fig. 6.). When the trunk of the adult horse was unearthed and cleared a skeleton of a foal was found, partly slipped caudally into the set of ribs, partly in the abdominal parts. The foetus was in the uterus still in breech presentation. The skull had been collapsed, the left side mandible is intact, the teeth (di 1-2, dp 2-4) are still in the alveolus.
