THE PILISSZÁNTÓ — I. ROCK-SIIELTER REVISION 29 accepted and employed in Central Europe it is practically unknown or downright rejected in Russian literature). This industry is synchronous with Kostenki 8 (Telmanskaja), with its material being relatively poor compared to that of its vicinity. 4 7 "between the 28—21th millennia (In the Upper pleniglacial as defined by Kozlowski) 4 8 a sudden fluorishing of this culture can be observed. These population groups, hunting herd steppe animals, populated vast areas. The Pavlovian culture can be characterized by a variety of burins, microlithic blades, Gravettian points, flechettes and Kostienki-type knives. J. K. Kozlowski— S. K. Kozlowski: Moravian type backed blade industry, Otte: group 4. 4 9 Ventral face processing of blades appears at the end of this period in the cold phase of the second pleniglacial, from Molodova through Aggsbach to layers 7—8 of Willendorf II. Otte: group 5. 5 0 Between the 23th and 17th millennia. At the end ( ?) of the last phase of the cold maximum, new groups of the Gravettian complex appeared. They can be characterized by shouldered blades (Craców-Spadzista, Moravany, Nitra), microlithic blades and artistic carvings. J. K. Kozlowski — S. K. Kozlowski: Kostienki-type backed blade tool assemblage Otte: group 6. 5 1 After the 17th millenennium it is the finds of Mammutova cave that represent the last well definable tool-assemblage. J. K. Kozlowski— S. K. Kozlowski: Eastern Ukrainian-or Dniester-type backed blade industry Otte: group 7. That the Upper Palaeolothic of Hungary is somewhat neglected in these summeries is mostly our fault. The rash chronological interpretation of the Szeleta culture, negligence of Bodrogkeresztúr-Henye and the vague definition of the Ságvárian 5 3 all contributed to the "yes, we've heard of it" altitude to be found in foreign publications. Hungarian sites If cultural identity is taken sensu stricto , one finds that there is not a single site in Hungary the industry of which could be related to that of the Pilisszántó I rockshelter. It is a topographical evidence that first of all the sites in the neighbourhood of the Pilisszántó I rock shelter need be surveyed. 4 7 Kozlowski 1985. 116. 4 8 Pleniglacial II: From Paudorf to Dyras I, in: Járai— Komlódi 1966. 4 9 Kozlowski 1983, 49-82.; Otte 1981,; Otte 1980, 173-197.; 5 0 Otte 1981, 135. 5 1 Otte 1981, 135-136.; Kozlowski 1969, 197-213.; Kozlowski- Rogowski 1979, Map 6. 5 2 Otte 1981, 136.; Kozlowski 1969. 197-213.; 5 3 Otte 1981, 136.; KozlowskiKozlowski 1979, 80-81.
