ANIMAL REMAINS ÍROM TISZA VAL K-TETES 79 Grave 22. — Contracted F skeleton lying on its left side 2 2. At the foot: Nr 10. — domestic Cattle long bone disph. fragm.; Nr 11. — Sheep Mj fragm. from the corp. mandibulae. In flower-pot 6 (?): Nr 12. — "animal bone" missing. Grave 23. — Contracted F skeleton lying on its left side. Pit XXI/d had been dug into the NE corner of the grave 2 3. In front the forearm: Nr. 7. — Pig 12 costae, scapula (tub. scapulae unfused), humerus (prox. and dist. epiph. unfused), radius (prox. and dist. epiph. unfused), ulna (tub. olecranii unfused) dext.; pelvis, femur, tibia (both prox. and dist. epiph. unfused), patella, fibula fragm., calcaneus (tub. calcanei unfused) sin. The 22 pig remains are fragmentary, 6— 10 months old. Grave 25. — Contracted F skeleton lying on its left side. Pit XXIII/b had been dug into the NE corner of the grave 2 4. In hollow pedestalled bowl Nr 7. : Nr. 9. — Sheep scapula, humerus, radius, ulna, lunatum (Cr) dext.; pelvis, femur, patella, tibia, astragalus calcaneus dext. Fragment of the ventral carapace from a European pond tortoise. The long bones of the sheep had broken in two in the middle, and are fragmentary. Their number is 11, adult. 2. SACRIFICAL ANIMAI. S Body parts from 6 animal species were deposited into the graves of the eMCA cemetery at Tiszavalk-Tetes. They are: domestic cattle, sheep, goat and pig; the aurochs was a hunted animal and the European pond tortoise was a collec­ted animal. The combined occurrence of animal species in the graves is the following (Table 1): in the majority of graves — 7— there are only sheep remains: 3, 9, 25 F; 4, 7, 17, 19 M graves; in grave 10 M there are the remains of only one sheep and one goat; in three graves there was only pig: 12 M, 16 F, 23 F. In three graves there is cattle together with sheep: 1 M, 18 F, 22 F. In grave 11 M aurochs occurs together with sheep and in grave 2 F sheep was deposited together with pig. 3. THE TOPOGRAPHICAL DISTRIBUTION OF THE ANIMAL BONES (= REMAINS OF FOOD) IN G R A V E S The remains of food offering can be found in different but always well defined places within the graves and the bones predominantly occur in anatomical order (Table 1.).
