DOBOSI Fig. 3 Map of the sites 3. ábra A lelőhelyek térképe — I think two indirect data are furthermore convincing: on the one hand in the course of a lithostratigrafical evaluation of Hungarian loesses the lower, characteristical, well-developed soil level of Basaharc was defined both stratigraphically and palaeontologically in a convincing way as an "interstadial within the lower Würm"; its radiocarbon date is about 65 ООО;

21 33 ООО is the age of the Basaharc-Dupla soils, younger by a whole glacial period, and cannot be identified with the interstadial of the Tata cultural layer;

2 on the other hand the date about 30 000 is already the period of the emergence of Upper Palaeolithics in the Carpathian Basin;

3 we have for the time being no data that the Tata industry would have survived so long. Considering also the data, both uncertain and contradictory, the date about 50 000 years seems to be realistic. 2
