(Fig. 12,5). During the comparative investigations the os phalangis III. determined earlier as belonging to the „Asinus hydruntinus" 3 8 proved to be that of an infantile horse. The dorsal and volar surfaces of os phalangis III. are porous, the margo solearis still had not reached the measurements characteristic of horses. The width measurement of facies articularis is 45,2 mm (!) which is characteristic of the Equus genera. The width measurements of facies articulares of os phalangis III. of Asinus and Hemionus genera are 31,5—40 mm 1" but they do not rise over 40 mm. This limit is valid also for fossil Asinidae. B.
