Tibor Kovács: Eastern Connections of North-Eastern Hungary in the Late Bronze Age

34 T. KOVÁCS Berkesz Csonkás-düló. (17) Urn cemetery. JAM, Nyíregyháza. Inv. no. 57.254.1—44. In 1903 during the ploughing of the one-quarter Hungarian acre area rising 1—2 metres high and forming the central portion (more than 600 x 300 m) of Csonkás-dűlő urn graves came to light. A. Jósa collected the finds of the cemetery and he mentioned that according to the discoverers the vessels had lain 60—70 cm deep and each ( ! ?) contained human bones. 1 7 Bronze jewellery is also evident on Jósa's drawings. Among these the bronze dagger of eastern type which I. Bona published as an object belonging to a hoard is missing. 11 1 The dagger was registered together with those bronze finds which definitely derived from the cemetery. Probably Bona incorrectly considered this assemblage as a hoard. The dagger presumably also derived from the cemetery. In the drawing of a hoard found in the northern part of Csonkás-dűlő (in the vicinity of „Agár csárda") — a site younger than the urn cemetery —• the dagger was not included. 1.
