Patay Pál: A neolithikum a bodrogkeresztúri Kutyasoron

The Neolithic Period at Bodrogkpresztúr-Kutyaaor 37 were buried in contracted position. In the Carpathian basin the burials of extended skeletons, observed at Bodrogkeresztúr, of the Neolithic period and of the Copper Age are known so far only from two sites : Polgár—Basatanya and Marosdécse (Decia Mure§ului). Both are cemeteries of the Early Copper Age. It may be that this exceptional burial rite can be traced to a common, perhaps oriental origin. Neither at Bodrogkeresztúr, nor at Kenézlő are mingled the Tisza culture with the Bükk one, though at both places the settlements of both are to be found 1—2 km. distant. The only exception is the anthropomorphic vase from Kenézlő, as it derives probably from the settlement of the Tisza culture, but it is ornamented in „Bükk III" style. The lack of mingle proves that the two cultures were locally not simultaneous. According to J. Csalog the Tisza culture might have developed just in the territory in question. In consequence ofthat this culture ought to be the older one here. In contrast to his opinion it is still more probable that the type-site of the culture is in the southern parts of the Great Plain and spread northwards from here. This is supported also by the fact that the pottery characteristic of Vinca, Csóka, and Tordos occur also among our finds as well as that the elements assigned to the extrem eend of the Late Stone Age or almost to the Early Copper Age appear also in this territory. Naturally, apart from this fact the Tisza culture and the Bükk one might have influenced each other; probably in general they are contemporary, only the Bükk culture was earlier present in this area. However, .J. Csalog also admits that the earlier finds of the Tisza culture are represented here too. The material of the settlement at Bodrogkeresztúr—Kutyasor is also very important for the chronology of the linear-ornamented pottery which was misestimated by Tompa as proto-Bükkian, as the aforementioned pottery occurred together with the finds belonging to the earlier phase of the Tisza culture at the settlement of Bodrogkereszt úr— К ut yasor .
