SO аж. K ÖREK: THE CEMETERY OF THE COPPER AGE AND THE NEOLITHIC SETTLEMENT Grave 1. Disturbed by the workmen. 80 cm. deep, in south-east and north-west direction, the head to the south-east. Grave-goods: 1. Near the right hand a broken copper knife (PI. XVI, fig. 3), the fragment 5 cm long. — 2. Near the head a strongly worn whetstone made of sandstone (Pl. XVI, fig. .2). — 3. A hemisperical pot, its place was not observed, (Pl. XVI, fig. 8),. under the rim four symmetrically set warts and on the sides irregularly set smaller warts, red in colour, texture almost coarse. Height S.8 cm. diameter at the mouth 9.5 cm and at the bottom 4.5 cm. Grave 2. Disturbed contracted skeleton lay .south-east and north-west with the head to south-east, 100 cm. deep. Grave-goods: 1. A milk-jug shaped vessel (Pl. XV, fig. 9) with two small handles starting from beneath the rim, grey in colour, texture fine. — 2. Beside the former a two handled bowl with slightly oval rim in the direction of the handles (PL XV, fig. 2) in the middle of the bottom a 2X2 cm -circular impression is to be seen. Grave 7. SO cm. deep a full-developed skull alone. The skull is assigned to the Copper Age for its type and patina. Grave 8. A contracted skeleton, which was disturbed from the pelvis downwards by the excavation of grave 4 of the mediaeval period, lay south-east and north-west, on its right side, 80 cm. deep. Grave-goods: 1. In front of the face a hemisperical bowl with convex bottom (PL XV, fig. 4), grey in colour, texture fine. — 2. Beside the former a hemisperical small bowl decorated with two warts on each side (Pl. XV, fig. 7), red in colour, texture coarse. — 3. The third vessel in front of the face is also hemisperical with convex bottom (PL XVI, fig. 10), two small handles start from the rim. — 4. Near the outer side of the pelvis a vessel of which lower part is a truncated cone and the cylindrical neck is slightly constricted towards the mouth (Pl. XV, fig. 10), on the broadest part of the belly two small handles and between them four vertical ribs, 5 cm. long, decorate both sides, grey in colour, texture fairly fine. Grave 9. A male skeleton contracted from 178 cm. length to 80 cm., lay south-east and morth-west, 120 cm. deep, on its right side. Grave-goods : 1. In front of the face a flowerpot shaped vessel (Pl. XV, fig. 5), on the sides four symmetrically set warts, reddish grey in colour, texture fairly fine. — 2. Near to the former a hemisperical bowl with globular bottom (Pl. XV, fig. 1), two vertical warts start from the rim, grey in colour, texture fairly fine. — 3. Behind the skull a vessel with convex bottom, not very well executed, grey in colour (Pl. XVI, fig. 9). — 4. Behind the pelvis a milkjug shaped vessel (Pl. XV, fig. 11) of illshapen form, with a particularly large lower part, grey in colour, texture almost fine. — 5. In front of the chest animal bones, mostly those of swine. Grave 15. A strictly contracted skeleton of an infant lay in the same direction as the formers, on its right side, 100 cm deep. Near the knees a hemisperical vessel with a slightly convex bottom (Pl. XV, fig. 6) in the middle on both sides a pierced lug, red in colour, texture coarse. Grave 2k- A skeleton of an infant lay south-east and north-west, on its right side, 78 cm. deep, contracted from 127 cm. length to 77. cm. The hands raised to the chin, the legs slightly flexed. Grave-goods were absent. Pit 1. 60 cm. deep we found in an area of 120X150 cm. lumps of mud-plaster with reed impressions, thrown in forming a triangular shape. Under them appeared an oval pit, 160 cm. deep and 100X120 cm. in diameter. From it bones of swine, a few potsherds, the fragment of a faceted stone celt with shafthole (Pl. XVI, Í15. 4), greyish white hammerstone (Pl. XVI, fig. 7) and two intact pots (PL XV, figs. 3, 8) came to light. The lower part of both pots are truncated cones and the upper cylindrical. One of the pots has four warts on its belly, on the lower third part of the pot (Pl. XV, fig* 8). The other pot differs in colour, it is red, and besides the four bigger warts four smaller ones decorate it too. Pit 2. Diameter 210X260 cm, depth 252 cm. A few potsherds occured in it with a pot resembling to the smaller one in pit 1. (PL XVI, fig. ID. Pit 3. Irregular form of 210X230 cm, 184 cm. deep. A few bone refuse, potsherds (PL XVI, figs. 1,6) and fragments of stone celts (PL XVI, fig. 5) came to light. In the inventory book of the históriai collection of the grammar school of Zenta, under the number of 48 there are mentioned the following vessels: 1.
