48 FOGORVOSI SZEMLE ■ 98. évf. Supplementum, 2005. Fejérdy P: History of the Department of Prosthodontics The Department of Prosthodontics, established in 1959, was at first under the direction of Professor László Molnár till 1968. He was a remarkable man of clear thinking, great lexical knowledge and a colourful personality. Prominent work of the “founding fathers” Professor György Huszár and Associate Professor Imre Földvári, patient-centred care and farreaching scientific activity of Professor Géza D. Kovács influenced the important formative years of the „Molnár era”. An interregnum occured in 1968, Professor Béla Berényi continued moving the department forward while serving as acting head of the department. In September of 1969 Professor Dénes Schranz was appointed to become the director of the department. He paved the way for those who followed, maintained a well regulated clinic, permitted none of his colleagues to remain uninstructed, emphasised importance of involvement in scientific research and made special efforts to promote constructive, responsible individual initiatives. After Professor Dénes Schranz retiring from his position in 1975, Professor Tibor Fábián wrote another great page in the progress of the clinic during his 23 year long period of direction. Expiration of his term on the 1st of July, 1999 was followed by a smooth transition. Professor Pál Fejérdy served on the clinic staff following graduation (1969), he took all steps of academic grades on the way to be appointed director. Taking personal responsibility for the everyday life of the department, being acquainted with all strong and weak points, he continued to make great achievements on many fronts. During the past five years new development targets were set, mission and priorities have been refined. Principle and discipline became guiding hands of actions, objectives have been developed to serve as a basis for assessment of the achievement of the departmental goals. Patient care, teaching and research met the requirements of Quality Management System of ISO 9001:2000. As the technological age sweeps through the nation, the department continued to remodel and adapt its facility dedicated to the development and application of medical informatics.
