FÁKLYALÁNG 5 HUNGARIAN FREEDOM FIGHTERS' PARLIAMENT EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE On November 4, 1956, the hoards of the Soviet Red Army launched a new treacherous attack against the Hungarian people and its democratic government freely established during the days of independence. During the ensuing unequal struggle, the fate of the Hungarian freedom fighters, and that of the Hungarian people, was sealed in spite of the fact they fought like heroes who earned the veneration and respect of all mankind. Tens of thousands of our freedom fighter comrades had died in the struggle, many others had disappeared in Soviet concentration camps, or perished in the prisons of their stooges. In the face of overwhelming odds, many of the true freedom fighters left the Soviet controlled country to seek asylum in the free world in order to continue their struggle for the freedom of the Hungarian people and for the independence of the country. Imre Nagy and the members of his government as well as his aides were lured from the safety of the Yugoslav Embassy in Budapest, and first arrested, deported to foreign lands in order to sentence them to death, and execute the. Their execution was the crest of a Soviet-Communist drive in our country during which Kadar and his henchmen, under the protection of the Soviet occupation troops, and the Soviet secret police, imposed a ruthless terror regime, liquidating and eliminating everything that was or even appeared to be Hungarian. Freedom fighters who left the country to continue their struggle in the free world, established organizations to pursue more effectively this purpose. They continued, ever since, their struggle even against heavy odds, and even against their personal interest to establish themselves in the adopting countries. These freedom fighters’ organizations have launched a series of wide-ranged campaigns for the implementation of the United Nations resolutions and for the restoration of freedom to the people and independence to the country. After long years of bitter experiences, the freedom fighters had to accept the fact that this most sacred revolution and freedom fight of the Hungarian people had fallen victim to treason and to let-down by the community of free nations. This let-down was, however, more than matched by the terror from the East. The Hungarian political exiles, including many of the self-styled freedom fighters, have become, during the years, ploys of international intrigue. The World Federation of Hungarian Freedom Fighters (Nemzetőr), established early in 1957, continued a day-to-day struggle against such elements who, unfortunately, seemed to have enjoyed full material support in their work that clearly undermined the creation of unity among the exiles and, thus, prevented the implementing of the ideas of 1956. In order to clear our ranks of subversive and discordcreating elements, the Hungarian freedom fighters set up the Hungarian October 23 Movement in 1961. After five years of strenuous preparatory work, the supreme body of all freedom fighters’ organizations, the Hungarian Freedom Fighter Parliament was called into being in 1966. There were many reasons that had made the establishment of this supreme organization imperative. The following two reasons, however, had been overriding all others: 1. Since the Kadar regime, ever since its imposition by Soviet troops in November 1956, was but a tool of Soviet- and Communist imperialism, and exercised its power through terror and oppression, it does not and cannot represent the Hungarian people. 2. Professional exiles enjoying material support in the free world failed to fulfill their original missions in fighting for the true cause of the Hungarian people because they had been sowing discord among Hungarians living in the free world, and because they had been subordinating Hungarian interests to harmful influences, and therefore, had become unfit to represent the silenced Hungarian people. The Hungarian Freedom Fighter Parliament is the rallying point of Hungarians of honest intentions. Its members had been elected commanders by the true fighters of the Revolution and Freedom Fight, or had been elected leaders of Rvolutionary and Workers’ Councils, and/or National Committees. In its capacity as the representative body of true freedom fighters, the Hungarian Freedom Fighter Parliament, in 1967, submitted to the leading forums and statesmen a paper “Calling for a New Approach to the Hungarian Problem.” Members of the Hungarian Freedom Fighter Parliament are sorry to see that even after this paper, the leaders and statesmen, parties and party officials, various government agencies in the free world continued lending their material support of disreputable elements. They are still given plush offices and high positions in return for their unlimited services to the detriment of the true Hungarian cause. The events of October-November 1956 made it quite clear to professional exiles and to all governments in the free world: a free Hungarian people does not, and consequently, will not tolerate the imposition of traitors from any side, and by any foreign power. We solemnly confirm that our fellow freedom fighters had fought and sacrified their lives (continued on page 12)
